JOIN US AS A LEAD AI SCIENTIST - ITEM IMAGE (COMPUTER VISION/IMAGE AND DEEP LEARNING)

As a Lead AI Scientist on the Advanced Machine Learning team, you'll develop machine learning models and algorithms for our retail businesses key strategic initiatives! You will work with business partners and other AI scientists to gain an understanding of our business needs and technology processes as well as work on the leading edge of AI/ML. You'll build end-to-end AI solutions to meet those needs, including development, deployment and maintenance of algorithms and models at scale.

In this role, you will translate your knowledge of Natural Language Processing (NLP), Computer Vision (CV), and/or Deep Learning (DL) into products that impact millions of Target guests daily. You will get to work with the latest research and technology as your solutions will drive the next generation of guest experiences and business insights at the grandest scale.

In Target's Advanced Machine Learning team as a Lead AI Scientist, you will:

  • Translate complex business problems into tractable technical specifications
  • Analyze multi-modal data sets to formulate and validate statistical hypotheses, and to find patterns and other actionable insights
  • Design and implement machine learning models, specifically in the areas of NLP and CV
  • Test, validate and deploy the models to serve the needs of different business groups
  • Partner and closely communicate with internal stakeholders and cross-functional teams in scoping functional requirements and in stitching together end-to-end technical solutions
  • Collaborate with other scientists and engineers to solve high-impact business problems and to create operational efficiencies
  • Follow agile methodology to build high quality technical products
  • Keep abreast with the relevant work and research in the industry as well as in academia


Requirements:

  • PhD/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or related quantitative field
  • 5+ years of experience in building and optimizing machine learning models to solve complex business problems
  • Expertise in Linear Algebra, Statistics, Information Theory or related mathematical domains
  • Proficient in Python, Java or equivalent programming language
  • Fluency in machine learning and deep Learning frameworks like Tensorflow and PyTorch
  • Expert in creating deep learning based NLP and CV models
  • Able to adopt and modify publicly available deep neural network architectures
  • Extensive theoretical and practical understanding NLP and CV applications including: word and sentence embeddings, intent analysis, named entity recognition, image classification, object detection and tracking.
  • Track record in developing large scale ML models and deploying them to production
  • Ability to test, measure, and monitor the performance of algorithms - including those in production
  • Proven ability in distilling tractable technical problems from complex business scenarios and use cases
  • Champion of inclusive team culture with a mentality of continuous learning
  • Demonstrated experience in working with business teams as well as driving value to business through analytical methods
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
