Job Summary: 

The Medical Assistant functions as an essential part of the clinical team by performing patient care services and assisting with administrative duties as assigned.

Job Duties:

1. Provides primary patient care services in a clinic setting for SMSC Community members, employees, and dependents. Services include obtaining vitals, performing clinic functions such as obtaining electrocardiograms and spirometry testing, and assisting with minor office procedures.
2. Assists the clinic staff in the examination and evaluation of new patients by performing preliminary examination procedures, gathering health history information, and other relevant medical information.
3. May assist with related administrative duties such as data entry, photocopying, faxing, filing, collating, ordering supplies, and mail distribution.
4. Provides initial assessment and medical treatment for SMSC employees who are injured at work and secure a urine specimen for drug and alcohol testing.
5. Administers immunizations to patients to include but not limited to influenza and hepatitis vaccines. Administers medications as prescribed by providers on staff, including oral and injectable medications.

Days Monday - Friday Hiring Rate or Hiring Range Based on qualifications Requirements

1. Successful completion of an approved Medical Assistant training program.
2. Must be a Certified Medical Assistant through the American Association of Medical Assistants or eligible to become certified.
3. Good computer skills to include MS Word, Excel, and Outlook, as well as other health care of business related software as needed.
4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
5. Must hold and maintain Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. If not CPR certified upon hire, must obtain certification within 90 days of employment.
