We are looking for a highly motivated engineering professional who wants to join the Capacity Management Team where you will collect, analyze, build, & develop Target's infrastructure capacity management & reliability work. You will be a part of a team of engineers driving strong visibility & focus on reliability aspects of our infrastructure services. About This Opportunity

As an Engineer in Capacity Management Engineering, you serve as the technical anchor for the engineering team that supports our infrastructure capacity management aspects. You create, own and are responsible for the application architecture that best serves our partner teams in its functional and non-functional needs. You are someone who enjoys both development and data analysis aspects of engineering. You leverage your problem-solving skills to identify and drive changes to improve our infrastructure capacity planning and stability. You love keeping abreast of the latest industry trends and use them to help you innovate. You have leadership qualities, good judgment and clear communication skills. Within Capacity Management Engineering you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Design, implement and support tools aimed at defining key capacity performance criteria for infrastructure components


  • Develop APIs enabling the ability to obtain "self-service" recommendations on things like: Capacity utilization and forecasting.
  • Collaborate with the core team to promote, re-use and develop consistent technical-build, implementation and support processes following the agile design and documentation methodology
  • Develop software and systems using test driven development and continuous integration practices
  • Unit test code and create automated test scripts
  • Consult with key infrastructure partner teams to refine data models


  • Monitor and maintain existing environments
  • Research related products and make necessary technology recommendations related to capacity strategies
  • Innovate constantly and maintain the technical edge


About you:
• 4 year degree or equivalent experience
• 1+ years of software development experience
• Demonstrates familiarity with current and emerging technologies in own scope of responsibility, and develops ability to apply these technologies
• Understands concepts of package solutions and package specific programming language with knowledge of development objects
• Demonstrates and continuously builds upon domain-specific knowledge
• Demonstrates proficiency in at least one computer language
• Understands the concepts of distributed programming and applies it to their domain
• Possesses working knowledge of transaction codes/master data used within specific domain and participates in building custom solutions in the package
• Maintains technical knowledge within areas of expertise
• Stays current with new and evolving technologies via formal training and self-directed education

  • Server infrastructure knowledge - Unix
  • Demonstrates proficiency in at least one computer language
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technology and lead the adoption of successful patterns
  • Experience working in an agile environment (i.e. user stories, iterative development, etc.)
  • Maintains technical knowledge within areas of expertise


  • Stays current with new and evolving technologies via formal training and self-directed education
