The Minnesota Asset Building Coalition (MABC) is seeking a part-time Civic Engagement Associate to maintain and expand relationships with MABC member organizations and facilitate member involvement in trainings and advocacy work. This position is housed under Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid (Legal Aid). This role is remote due to COVID-19, but occasional in-office presence in our St. Paul office may be required in the future. Candidates from both inside and outside of the Twin Cities metro area welcome. This position will work 18.75 hours per week or 50% FTE. This position will start as soon as possible after an offer is extended.

The MABC is a statewide coalition of 135 nonprofit organizations committed to creating asset building opportunities for Minnesotans with low incomes, reducing systemic barriers to economic mobility and advancing racial equity. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Apply the principles of Legal Aid’s Racial Justice Values Statement in all interactions. To read the statement, please visit https://mylegalaid.org/news/article/legal-aid-introduces-its-racial-justice-values-statement.
  • Engage MABC member organizations across the state in-person and virtually by building relationships with executive directors, staff, and clients and supporting their asset building work
  • Coordinate and facilitate the work of member groups, including MABC’s Advisory Council and other groups that allow practitioners to network and share coalition best practices and plan policy advocacy
  • Assist the MABC Director with encouraging participation of MABC members in advocacy opportunities
  • Prepare and lead workshops on asset building and policy advocacy
  • Plan and facilitate events and programming for the MABC, including the statewide Asset Building Summits and regional gatherings
  • Maintain member database and contact lists and manage organizational communications, including writing the MABC e-newsletter and maintaining the MABC website
  • Assist the Legislative Advocate with administrative tasks, including scheduling and planning meetings, writing grants, managing the member dues system, and other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Qualifications

  • At least three years of relevant professional experience
  • A four-year undergraduate degree OR equivalent job experience
  • Demonstrated interest in and commitment to racial, gender, and economic equity and the needs of culturally and socioeconomically diverse communities
  • Ability to build and maintain strong organizational and interpersonal relationships with nonprofit leaders, staff, and clients
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, particularly with public speaking and presenting
  • Experience facilitating meetings
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple responsibilities
  • Ability to travel across the state on a monthly or bi-monthly basis (not currently due to COVID-19 protocols) and occasional work on evenings and weekends
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diverse economic, social, and cultural experiences
  • Familiarity with the legislative process
  • Experience with event planning and facilitating large groups
  • Grant writing and reporting experience
  • Familiarity with the asset building field
  • Experience with Squarespace, Airtable, Mailchimp, or similar software

SALARY: $25.21 to $27.36 per hour, depending on experience, plus benefits
