Product Test Mechanic - Night Shift - Ditch Witch
This employee principally tests, modifies, and repairs prototype equipment in the Product Proving Department. He or she will also be cross-trained to weld, machine, and assemble components. The employee also performs other duties as assigned.
Operate Ditch Witch® equipment in field-test conditions.
Document and report test information to engineers and designers.
Modify and repair equipment.
Working on mechanical, electric, and hydraulic systems using power and hand tools (hoists, wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, etc.).
Eventually be cross-trained to perform other departmental duties, including welding, machining, and assembly.
Work independently some of the time, with limited supervision.
Working outdoors at test fields or construction sites, in all kinds of weather conditions.
Manufacturing plant conditions (indoors, with variable temperature and humidity, noise, and dirt).
Use of personal protective equipment as specified in the Safety Policy, plus specific departmental requirements as needed:
Respirator, hard hat, electric insulating gloves/boots, etc.
Physical hazards such as powered vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic, sharp objects, moving machinery, electrical arc-welding equipment, and materials handling.
Working with hazardous materials, including gasoline, diesel, solvents, oils, grease, and pressurized gases and fluids.
Variable duties, workloads, and priorities. Changes often happen with little advance notice.
A high level of teamwork and cooperation with supervisors, engineers, designers, and coworkers.
Occasional overnight travel.
Have experience operating heavy mobile agricultural or construction equipment, along with the ability to learn to operate tractor trenchers, pedestrian trenchers, boring equipment, etc.
Have an appropriate background in mechanical work and equipment operation, preferably including experience troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electric, and hydraulic systems on heavy equipment.
Demonstrate appropriate reading, clerical, and basic math skills.
Be able to regularly handle items weighing up to 25 pounds, and occasionally handle items weighing in excess of 50 pounds.
HS Diploma/GED preferred.
CDL Class A with Tanker Endorsement preferred.
Be able to obtain a CDL Class A with Tanker Endorsement. within the first 6 months.
