Senior Manager - Domestic First Mile (DFM) Operations is responsible for driving several key program initiatives which are critical to the evolution and continued transformation of the domestic first mile. First, in this role you will own third party relationship and operational performance management for all Less-than-Truckload (LTL) shipments in the Target network. Partnering closely with our managed transportation provider you will drive operational excellence and identify opportunities for continued efficiencies based on both upstream and downstream requirements and inputs. Second, this role will manage and drive growth of the utilization of our middle mile dedicated fleets in service of first mile full truckload pickups from vendor and facility origins (Backhaul). This is a key source of underutilized capacity that has the potential to be hugely accretive to both cost and service metrics within the Domestic First Mile. Last, this role will own establishing the roadmap for activating management to IRD across our we pay network in partnership with teams such as TTOPS, DFM Operations and DFM Optimization. This role will require heavy external engagement with strategic third party providers, along with internal stakeholder engagement and management. The three programs this role will be responsible for are highly visible and have the potential to add tremendous value to the Target owned first mile network

Responsibilities
  • Own all LTL shipments into the network
  • Identify order frequency opportunities to create efficiencies within the LTL network and convert to full TL
  • Partner with DFM Optimization to identify static routing opportunities for LTL vs. In-house consolidation
  • Partner with Middle Mile, DFM Facility and Vendor Operations to grow use of our middle mile dedicated fleets for first mile pickups
  • Identify cost savings opportunities and prioritize use of middle mile capacity accordingly
  • Own all operational performance management and routines for LTL and backhaul modes
  • Lead activation of management to IRD both internally within DFM and externally with our third party providers
  • Partner closely with TTOPs on sequencing to ensure alignment with ShipIQ activation and implementation

Requirements
  • 4-year college degree or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of leadership experience
  • Creative approach to problem solving
  • Strong analytical and reasoning skills
  • Excellent communication skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage teams remotely
  • Strong negotiator and influencer
  • Background in retail or transportation
