POSITION PURPOSE

The Practical Nursing program is a MN Board of Nursing approved program of study to prepare students for a diploma in Practical Nursing.  Graduates are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Exam for Practical Nurses.  This position provides advanced technical assistance to students and faculty in the Practical Nursing Program, performing duties with a high level of independence.  This includes preparing labs (ordering supplies and set up of materials), assisting students who wish to practice skills in the lab, and assisting faculty with lab and simulation experiences.    

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary or industry certificate, diploma, degree or relevant licensure in Practical Nursing AND one year experience in teaching, tutoring or training others in Nursing.

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with individuals in a diverse multicultural and multiracial community;
  • Medical/Surgical nursing experience;
  • Interpersonal and communication skills, including listening, speaking, writing and the ability to interact professionally with diverse populations in a positive, courteous, and helpful manner;
  • Ability/desire to work with students in a lab setting, either one-to-one or in small groups;
  • Math skills, sufficient to verify scope of calculations and assessment of cost;
  • Strong organizational skills, sufficient to maintain inventory and quickly set up laboratory experiences;
  • Computer skills sufficient to enter and retrieve data into computer software systems to create purchase orders.
