Assistant Desk Secretary - Chief Clerk's Office
A full-time, professional, nonpartisan position with benefits, to start immediately, is available in the Chief Clerk's Office of the Minnesota House of Representatives.
The primary responsibility of this position is to coordinate and participate in the electronic compilation of the daily House Journal, and to assist in the preparation and production of various documents for the House Desk to facilitate the legislative process. Extensive involvement in proofreading the Permanent Journal and carrying out other assignments as necessary. In the absence of the Desk Secretary Supervisor, acts as the supervisor of other administrative support staff, as needed.
A strong understanding of the legislative process and a familiarity with floor procedure is essential to function effectively in this position. Accuracy and attention to detail are critical. Proven capacity to provide a high level of accuracy and speed in the electronic retrieval and formatting of text is required. Must be able to work effectively and cooperatively as a team member in providing services to the House Desk. Ability to adapt quickly, meet tight deadlines, and handle pressure well is critical.
Applicants must have strong communication skills and a demonstrated capacity to provide nonpartisan service. Must be a motivated self-starter who is able to work independently. Familiarity with a network computing environment and MS Office applications is necessary. Must be flexible and able to work long and irregular hours during the legislative sessions and at certain other times.
Entry salary: $2,228.70 semi-monthly, commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits.
