JOB POSITION: Senior Engineer

LOCATION: 1000 Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis, MN 55403

DUTIES: Develop application architecture and distill abstract architecture into software design using a thorough understanding of implementation issues and core development platforms; build batch and streaming applications to ingest data and bring the data into the enterprise data lake; collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and peer teams to understand the requirements to facilitate data needs; work with Lead Engineer to design new applications; apply software engineering patterns and programming expertise to build high-performance, scalable, repeatable, and secure deliverables with broad commercial impact (high throughput and low latency); apply and maintain knowledge of current and emerging technologies within specialized areas of Target's technology domain; participate in the design, lifecycle management, and total cost of ownership of software services; conduct design and code review for junior team members, unit and integration testing, deployment, and debugging activities at the application level; use technical problem-solving skills to influence team software decisions and help software teams triage operational issues; and develop and maintain strong domain-specific knowledge regarding Target's technology capabilities and key competitors' products and differentiating features. Tools/technologies used: Hadoop, Hive, Kafka, Oozie, Hue, Hyperion, Xenon, Python, Scala, Spark, HDFS, Sqoop, and Pytest. Position includes a telecommute benefit within commuting distance to Minneapolis-area Target office, as directed.

REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related field and at least three (3) years of experience in software development (any title) performing data profiling, code development, unit testing, integration testing, deployment, and using Hadoop, Spark, Oozie, HDFS, Sqoop, Hive, Python, Pytest, and Hue. In the alternative, the employer will accept a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related field and at least five (5) years of post-baccalaureate, progressive experience in software development (any title) performing data profiling, code development, unit testing, integration testing, deployment, and using Hadoop, Spark, Oozie, HDFS, Sqoop, Hive, Python, Pytest, and Hue. Position includes a telecommute benefit within commuting distance to Minneapolis-area Target office, as directed.
