Lead Product Owner - Compliance

About us:

Target is an iconic brand, a Fortune 50 company and one of America's leading retailers.

To match the signature style and passion of Target's distinctive retail brand, Target Legal Affairs is a dynamic and deeply knowledgeable team of experts. Whether specializing in law, government affairs, employee relations, risk, compliance, ethics, security or food safety, we use our expertise and influence to advocate for Target, support Target's business and mitigate risk for the company. We work with both internal and external entities on key issues that affect Target's ability to productively, ethically and securely conduct business. Through our understanding of Target's business models and operations, we help facilitate Target's growth, and provide guidance that leaders rely on to make appropriate, well-informed decisions. Simultaneously, we help protect the business by applying our comprehensive understanding of risk and the law on issues that impact our brand, guests, team members, stores, distribution centers and corporate locations.

Here, you'll enjoy working autonomously with a healthy work-life balance. Your passion for learning the business, collaborating with others and building relationships with senior leaders and key business partners that you support will be essential to tackling the ever-changing legal and risk-based challenges we face in a dynamic and fast-paced retail environment.

A role in Compliance, Legal, and Risk Services means you will support our compliance, risk, corporate security, and legal partners with their operational and strategic plans. You will play a key role in creating and bringing these strategies to life through technology, reporting, monitoring, and training.

About the Job:

The Compliance Product is responsible for discovering and delivering productivity and effectiveness improvements in our 120+ compliance programs at Target. These improvements are likely automation opportunities, proactive/preventative monitoring, and actionable alerting mechanisms. The tools and methods built will be foundational to achieving Target's compliance vision.

This role requires a deep understanding of compliance processes. There will be a large amount of ambiguity and soft skills as the role is not likely to be successful without great partnerships with compliance program leaders and subject matter experts. Additionally, you will need the ability to clearly articulate the value to drive priorities, evangelize the Product, and deliver on Compliance Productivity.

The primary partners for this Product are Corporate Compliance, Field Compliance, Food Sourcing Compliance, Team Member Safety, HR Compliance, Product Safety, and Data Analytics.

Product Teams at Target are accountable for the delivery of business outcomes enabled through technology and analytic products that are easy to use, easily maintained and highly reliable. Product teams have one shared backlog that is inclusive of all product, technology, discovery and design work.

As a Lead Product Owner, you will work in the product model and will partner to develop a comprehensive product strategy, related roadmap, and set key business objectives (OKRs) for your respective product. You will need to leverage the knowledge of your product, as well as, customer feedback and establish other relevant data points to assess value, develop business cases, and prioritize the direction and desired outcomes for your product. You will lead a product and work in unison with engineers, UX designers, data scientists, and business partners to deliver a product.

You will be the "voice of the product" to key stakeholders to ensure that their needs are met and that the product team is getting the direction and support that it needs to be successful. You will develop and actively understand the market, maintain a product roadmap and backlog outlining the customer themes, epics, and stories while prioritizing the backlog to focus on the highest impact work for your team and stakeholders.

You will encourage the open exchange of information and viewpoints, as well as, inspire others to achieve challenging goals and high standards of performance while committing to the organization's direction. You will foster sense of urgency to achieve goals and leverage resources to overcome unexpected obstacles, and partner with product teams across the organization to help them achieve their goals while pursuing and completing yours. Job duties may change at any time due to business needs.

About you:
  • 4-year college degree (or equivalent experience)
  • 6+ years of retail experience or equivalent domain experience
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience with technology and ability to facilitate communication between business and technology teams
  • Experience working in an agile environment (e.g. user stories, iterative development, scrum teams, sprints, personas)
