As a Senior Engineer, you serve as a specialist in the engineering team that supports the product. You will have the opportunity to design, develop and support our Enterprise datastore environments that are the data foundation for some of Target's newest innovation. You'll put your skills, experience and passion to work in an entrepreneurial environment where success is rewarded. You are an expert in programming and apply your skills in developing the product. You have the skills to design and implement the architecture on your own, but choose to influence your fellow engineers by proposing software designs, providing feedback on software designs and/or implementation. You show good problem solving skills and can help the team in triaging operational issues. You leverage your expertise in eliminating repeat occurrences. We are looking for highly motivated engineering professionals who can connect our developers to Target's core data store technologies by enabling scalable and seamless deployments and developing the orchestration of managed solutions.   • Use your technology acumen to apply and maintain knowledge of current and emerging technologies within specialized area(s) of the technology domain
  • Evaluate new technologies and participate in decision-making, accounting for several factors such as viability within Target's technical environment, maintainability, and cost of ownership
  • Lead the design, lifecycle management, and total cost of ownership of services
  • Participate in routine and non-routine construction, automation, and implementation activities, ensuring successful implementation with architectural and operational requirements and best practices met
  • Support developers in the modeling and deployment of Postgres datastore technologies
  • Refine the deployment pipeline improving the mechanisms and designing the packages to enable repeatable, stable, and scalable data store deployments
  • Collaborate with the core team to promote, re-use and develop consistent technical build, implementation and support processes following the agile design and documentation methodology
  • Develop software and systems on test driven development and continuous integration practices
  • Unit test code and create automated test scripts
  • Consult with key development partners to refine data models ensuring optimal performance
  • Monitor and maintain existing environments
  • Research related products and make necessary software recommendations
  • Innovate constantly and maintain the technical edge

About you:
  • Four-year degree or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of software and database development experience with at least one full cycle implementation from requirement to production
  • Demonstrates strong domain-specific knowledge regarding Target's technology capabilities, and key competitors' products and differentiating features
  • Strong problem solving and thought: partnership skills
  • Strong sense of ownership and the ability to work with a limited set of requirements

  • Good verbal and written communication skills


Desired Requirements:
  • BS in computer science or equivalent
  • Full scale lifecycle management of Linux based platforms, performing end to end administration, and having knowledge of various security requirements to keep the environments PCI, PII, SOX, GLBA or HIPAA compliant.
  • Solid understanding of the CAP Theorem and distributed computing
  • In-depth knowledge of architecting and creating PostgreSQL database systems
  • Familiarity with appropriate Relational / datastore use cases (Wide Column, Doc Store, Cache, Key Value, Graph, etc.)
  • Experience assisting with the design, implementation, and on-going support of PostgreSQL environments
  • Hands-on experience with cloud based datastore management within OpenStack or other cloud environments (Azure, AWS, GCP, etc...)
  • DBMS experience (two to four years of SQL Server, Postgres, Mongo and or ElasticSearch)
  • Linux Administration and scripting experience.
  • Automation - Using tools such as Ansible, Chef
  • DevOps exposure to CICD workflows and toolsets (Git, Jenkins,etc)
  • Experience with one or more scripting languages (Bash, Python, Golang, Ruby, Ansible)
  • Experience with identifying hardware and software related issues
  • CI/CD chain familiarity
  • Experience with Full Stack Development
  • Proven experience in managing Postgres data base environments supporting critical 24/7 applications
  • Experience with designing and support for data migration activities.
  • Experience in monitoring, performance tuning and managing Patroni clusters.
  • Experience in data structure design, data modeling for relational use cases
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technology and support the adoption of successful patterns
  • Experience working in an agile environment (i.e. user stories, iterative development, etc.)
  • Working with test-driven development and software test automation
