Description:
About us:
Target is an iconic brand, a Fortune 50 company and one of America's leading retailers.

Target as a tech company? Absolutely. We're the behind-the-scenes powerhouse that fuels Target's passion and commitment to cutting-edge innovation. We anchor every facet of one of the world's best-loved retailers with a strong technology framework that relies on the latest tools and technologies-and the brightest people-to deliver incredible value to guests online and in stores. Target Technology Services is on a mission to offer the systems, tools and support that guests and team members need and deserve. Our high-performing teams balance independence with collaboration, and we pride ourselves on being versatile, agile and creative. We drive industry-leading technologies in support of every angle of the business, and help ensure that Target operates smoothly, securely and reliably from the inside out.

The Data Center Automation team brings a software mindset to our data centers. By automating processes and integrating the physical (sensors, servers, etc.) with the digital (management systems, alerting, reporting, etc.), we are
  • improving resiliency through intelligent resource planning and automatic problem notification/resolution;
  • understanding the impacts of hardware outages on Target's business-critical applications; and
  • reducing our energy and water consumption through more efficient use of our systems.

We are a greenfield project that uses/plans to use Kotlin, Ktor, MongoDB, Neo4j, React, and Typescript. You don't need to know these; just be willing to learn.

As a Data Center Automation Lead Software Engineer you will...
  • Architect, design, and develop solutions - supporting and championing the data center automation technical roadmap
    • Ensure the reliability, observability, and security of our products
    • Interface with partner teams to ensure we build the right solutions
  • Help set quality standards for the team throughout the process
    • Advocate for and teach verification & validation techniques/best practices including automated testing and BDD
  • Mentor engineers providing technical guidance to solve complex problems
  • Support the product and participate in an on-call rotation (you can minimize support calls by influencing quality)

About you:
• 4 year degree or equivalent experience
• 7+ years of software development experience as a backend/full-stack developer

• Passionate about developing high-quality, scalable, and fault-tolerant systems

• Have a well-used language reference sitting on your desk/browser, Kotlin preferred but not required.

• Can lead design and architecture discussions and provide feedback on the benefits and pitfalls of any solution - and you can propose solutions to challenging problems

• Always learning and are excited to teach others what you learn
