Description:

Senior Product Owner - Inventory Management

About us:

Target is an iconic brand, a Fortune 50 company and one of America's leading retailers.

Target Global Supply Chain and Logistics is evolving at an incredible pace. We are constantly reimagining how we get the right product to the guest even better, faster and more cost effectively than before. We are becoming more intelligent, automated and algorithmic in our decision-making, so that no matter how guests shop-in stores or on Target.com-we deliver the convenience and immediate gratification they demand and deserve. We are on a mission to win decisively over any competitor, with a seamless and superior guest service experience unlike any they can offer. Our teams work with the agility our mission requires, and we constantly come together to implement new processes in record time. So we're looking for exceptional people who are proactive, creative, independent, innovative, risk-savvy and comfortable working in varying degrees of ambiguity. Are you a critical thinker who seeks the root cause and can analyze both qualitatively and quantitatively? Are you a creative problem-solver who simplifies problems, quickly identifies solutions, commits to a plan and then positively influences others to execute it? If so, you will have success on one of our dynamic teams.

About the Job:

The Inventory Planning Control (IPC) team, a pillar of Global Inventory Management (GIM), is specifically responsible for monitoring and operating Target's Inventory Planning and Control systems. This team is responsible for the system that Inventory Managers will use to get recommended order quantities, implement automatic ordering, decide how much inventory to buy, when to bring inventory into the target network, and where to position it. The IPC team innovates and continuously improves processes that result in sophisticated, intelligent and self-learning models. IPC is unique in that we are simultaneously developing the science of supply chain planning at Target and responsible for studying, designing, and building systems to suit Target's needs.

The IPC Performance Team is focused on ensuring that the larger IPC team is making progress against its goals to meet our guests' expectations while operating within constraints (space, financial, labor, etc.) and driving inventory-related costs down over time. The team creates, uses, and shares data, reporting, and tools that enable revolutionary modern processes (automated defect diagnosis, etc.) and drive continuous improvement within IPC and across GIM.

The Sr. Product Owner on the IPC Performance team is focused on leveraging data and reporting to drive appropriate actions and measuring the impact of those actions (or inaction), creating a feedback loop. Elements of the solution exist (data, metrics, simple prioritization, automated root cause analysis, and a user interface) but it will be the Product Owner's role to figure out how to partner with other product owners to bring these elements together and facilitate value-added action by our partner teams, notably Core Inventory Management (IM). Gathering and responding to feedback from users will be a critical part of the role. Regular share-outs during IPC Weekly Business Reviews (WBRs) will be expected. Job duties may change at any time due to business needs. You will report to Director Product Management, Inventory Planning and Control.

Product Teams at Target Corporation are accountable for the delivery of business outcomes enabled through technology and analytic products that are easy to use, easily maintained and highly reliable. Product teams have one shared backlog that is inclusive of all product, technology and design work.

As a Sr. Product Owner, you will work in the product model and will collaborate with your product team and key stakeholders to develop a plan and business objectives (OKRs) for your respective product. You will need to build a strong knowledge of your product through product discovery to collect customer feedback and work to collect other relevant data points that explain the value and help you prioritize the direction and desired outcomes for your product. You will work in unison with engineers, UX designers, data scientists and business partners to deliver a product.

You will be the "voice of the product" with your product team and stakeholders to ensure that their needs are met and you will be responsible to maintain and refine the product backlog (create user stories & acceptance criteria) while prioritizing the backlog to focus on the highest impact work for your team and stakeholders.

You will encourage the open exchange of information and viewpoints, as well as, inspire others to achieve challenging goals and high standards of performance while committing to the organization's direction. You will foster sense of urgency to achieve goals and leverage resources to overcome unexpected obstacles. Job duties may change at any time due to business needs.

About you:

  • 4-year college degree (or equivalent experience)
  • 4+ years of product experience or equivalent domain experience
  • Strong communication skills
  • Technical aptitude and experience working with large datasets
  • Experience working with system/data/reporting products in an agile environment
  • Experience as an inventory analyst (or similar role) in Inventory Management is desired
