A role in Corporate Compliance and Ethics means providing support and managing key compliance areas for Target including stores, distribution centers and at headquarters. You will also be a part of helping Target maintain a positive work environment by coordinating efforts in its Ethics office.

As a Director of Privacy you will:
  • Lead the development, implementation and on-going management of our global privacy, records and information management programs at Target, including the development of compliance strategy, governance, and systems in order to identify and address evolving risk; lead the development and programmatic application of policies and compliance management systems to ensure the sustainability and effectiveness of compliance programs
  • Develop an intimate understanding of regulatory and ethics privacy and ensure ongoing monitoring and response to legislative changes impacting our business; establish a process to regularly review and revise policies, documentation, and internal procedures to maintain compliance wit, federal, state, local and relevant international laws; represent the Compliance and Ethics team and Target's Privacy interests in a variety of internal and external venues, including regulator discussions, benchmarking, training, and thought leadership forums
  • Provide leadership and work direction to a team responsible for the execution of compliance and privacy programs and strategies, identifying creative, compliant solutions to achieve business goals, delivering awareness and training initiatives designed to increase understanding of policies, practices, procedures and legal obligations across the enterprise, and facilitating the records management process for collecting, using, sharing, retaining, and deleting guest/ team member data throughout all business channels and vendors
  • Oversee privacy and compliance processes and provide coaching, training and ongoing development to strengthen capabilities and mitigate risk; establish a culture of continuous improvement by benchmarking with other organizations, identifying opportunities for efficiencies or automation, and empowering privacy team members to innovate and influence change
  • Develop and implement strategies, goals, processes and technology to support Compliance, Privacy and Records Management; ensure thorough business case development, clear communication of concepts, and detailed analysis of project scope and downstream impacts when evaluating improvement initiatives; Lead the implementation and ongoing identification of system enhancements for compliance management and continuously evaluate the technology needs to support our programs; Implement a vendor management and assessment process mitigating or containing privacy risk throughout the relationship lifecycle
  • Establish and maintain key cross-functional relationships with senior leaders and teams to provide guidance on building privacy into our products and services, to socialize, drive collaboration and ensure accountability on compliance and privacy processes and programs, and to lead the implementation of changes or new processes that compliance with the law or internal policy
  • Identify team metrics and reporting capabilities to measure resource capacity, identify trends, evaluate program effectiveness, and recommend solutions to recurring privacy risks or themes for both US and international offices; prepare data summaries and presentations for leadership and cross-functional partners and serve as thought partner and advisor to those responsible for identifying next steps or implementing changes in order to maintain and ensure compliance; Measure, evolve, and report on Target's risk posture and compliance throughout the enterprise and lead governance committees and reporting for senior leaders
  • Create and maintain a positive team culture by demonstrating behaviors consistent with Target's values of Inclusivity, Connection and Drive; ensure on-going, effective communications to the team, and support individualized development by offering regular performance feedback, coaching, recognition and evaluation

About You:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Operations, Compliance or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 8-10 years of relevant experience in privacy, legal, compliance, records management or other related field; experience to include at least 5 years of progressive leadership
  • Previous experience working with Governance Risk and Compliance tools
  • Ability to facilitate meetings, resolve conflict, build consensus, establish rapport and collaborate effectively, internally and externally, across all levels of an organization
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to leverage data to influence decisions and distill complex issues into actionable plans
  • Ability to develop effective and collaborative relationships with key business leaders in order to independently drive accountability, instill confidence, and influence outcomes across business functions
  • Ability to adapt, prioritize and successfully manage multiple tasks or projects in response to changing or competing priorities
  • Excellent team leadership skills with experience building and developing a diverse team of functional experts
  • Ability to apply discretion and sensitivity while working with confidential information
  • Strong executive presence and the ability to develop effective written and verbal communications and presentations for all levels of leadership; comfort presenting information to large groups across all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated strategic skills with the ability to assess and challenge the current state, develop strategies, and identify the tactics necessary to drive a successful implementation
  • Highly organized, with strong detail orientation and a bias for accuracy


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certified information Privacy Professional or Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional
  • Master's degree, JD or other advanced education in a related field
  • Previous experience in retail or other matrixed corporate environment
  • A combination of US and International compliance program development, implementation and management
