The Commercial Service Writer I analyzes the requirements of a publication project to determine the appropriate information to be used. They will transform complex processes and technical concepts into clear and concise documentation to output to a variety of media in accordance with established styles and practices within targeted deadline dates. This role will also be responsible for implementing and maintaining a strategy for technical content management and standardization across all product lines and for use by multiple divisions within the organization. These tasks include revision management, engineering update inclusion, and annual document review.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Research, validate, enhance or create the information necessary to generate accurate, timely, user-appropriate technical publications. Examples of the most common publications in this role are Service Manuals, Diagnostic Fault Code Manuals, special distributor technical web alerts and notices, and general technical materials as required.
• Document complex service procedures, verify technical processes, and obtain photos when line art is not available.
• Lead the effort in technical content management, structure and organization, corporate trademark requirements, standardizing content across multiple print and digital platforms and machine product lines as necessary.
• Responsible for maintaining reliability of the content within the content management system, and publishing and communicating relevant updates to the users.
• Manage the content displayed on the corporate distributor extranet to ensure an accurate display of information. Digitally link the various materials that share a common product line, including third party documentation.
• Develop strong working relationships with product engineering, manufacturing, and internal and external service personnel to obtain or develop product specifications, service procedures, trouble-shooting procedures, and to verify accuracy of publications.
• Additional roles and responsibilities as required to result in an exceptional, timely, accurate, and user-friendly technical publication that fully supports the needs of our internal and external customers.

SPECIFICATIONS:

- HS Diploma Required; Degree in applicable field preferred.

Industry Experience/Knowledge Required:

• Must have excellent working knowledge of gas and diesel engine theory, drive line, powertrain, electrical drive systems, and applications. Hands-on mechanical and electrical experience and ability is required. Commercial lawn care and/or turf maintenance product knowledge preferred.
• Must have excellent writing skills and grammatical ability. Experience working with industry writing style, technical grammar, sentence form and structure is preferred. Knowledge of Simplified Technical English (STE) preferred.
• In-depth experience with content management systems is required.
• A general understanding and experience with web development or maintenance and audio/video capabilities desired.

Software Knowledge (Preferred):

Project Management Skills Required:
• Ability to work efficiently on multiple projects with strong attention to detail and deadlines.

• Works semi-independently while taking direction/advice from manager and senior team members.

• Adheres to priorities given and works to meet all deadlines. Gives timely communication to manager and team when risks and problems are identified.

• Ability to navigate a complex organization in order to procure the appropriate direction, expertise, insights, approvals, etc.

• Ability to collaborate with project managers and members of the engineering staff to produce accurate content.

• Initiates information gathering from needed internal and external resources and works effectively in cross-functional teams.

Technology Management Skills Required:
• Develop, organize and administer the Commercial Service Publications' content management system. Collaborate with other business units and technical teams to standardize and implement new content features.

• Strong desire, motivation, and ability to research, understand and embrace emerging technology related to various output venues available for displaying technical information.

• Ability to write system documentation in varying levels of complexity in support of different technologies.

Additional Skills:
• Must be a tenacious, yet professional individual, who can work quickly while maintaining thoroughness and attention to detail and product quality.

• Should possess strong desire to make continuous improvements to department products and processes.

• Must be a self-starter and manage multiple projects and deadlines. Must appreciate and maintain the highest level of customer service through relationship building and meeting commitments.

• Embraces new ideas, tools, and team direction to help the company and team move toward excellence and innovation.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• Standard office environment with shop time required to verify written procedures (approximately 10% of the time).

• Must be willing and able to operate lawn/turfcare products.
