The Target Data Science & Analytics team creates the tools and data products to sustainably educate and enable our business partners to make great data-based decisions at Target. We help develop the technology that personalizes the guest experience, from product recommendations to relevant ad content. We're also the source of the data and analytics behind Target's Internet of Things (iOT) applications, fraud detection, Supply Chain optimization and demand forecasting. We play a key role in identifying the test-and-measure or A/B test opportunities that continuously help Target improve the guest experience, whether they love to shop in stores or at Target.com.

As a Lead Data Analyst in Data Sciences & Analytics, you will play a unique and critical role on the highly used enterprise data product MerchIQ. You will interact with Team Members across Merchandising, Space Presentation, Transitions, Supply Chain, and Inventory Management to ensure they have the data that they need. MerchIQ is an analytical data product providing self-service access to thousands of Buy/Move/Sell metrics at Target's volume and scale in the Greenfield Data Visualization platform. MerchIQ serves Financial, Sales, Inventory, Space, Margin, Forecasts, Markdowns, and Allocation metrics in a stable and timely manner allowing users easy access to query and visualize.

You will play a critical role in creating timely and clear communication to thousands of internal and external users and collaborating with other data product teams to understand upstream issues, impacts and dependencies. You will have a unique opportunity to collaborate with and provide voice of customer feedback to data platform teams advocating for the diverse data needs of your users. You will also facilitate open labs providing guidance to technical and non-technical set of self-service team members helping them to creatively solve data issues with unique visualizations.

Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate closely with Product Owner to understand the needs of MerchIQ users
  • Partner with other data analysts to provide adhoc support through intake and open labs
  • Create and publish clear and timely issue communication to large audiences in multiple channels (i.e. Slack, email)
  • Inspire intellectual curiosity around Greenfield improvement opportunities
  • Contribute to the development of tools and processes which make the team more efficient


Qualifications:
  • Positive, people-oriented, enthusiastic and can easily work with others, regardless of their analytical proficiency or technical competence
  • Can make decisions with little to no guidance from manager or other leaders; proven track record of taking ownership and driving results
  • Analytical, creative, and innovative approach to solving problems


About you
  • 5+ years of experience in advanced reporting, analytics, data modeling, statistics, or data science OR masters level education in related discipline + 3 years of analytical experience
  • Advanced proficiency writing complex SQL queries and manipulating large datasets
  • Strong grasp of Python/R or other statistical programming languages
  • 5+ years building solutions off varying data storage platforms (Hadoop, Postgres, Oracle, etc.)
  • Experience developing metrics, reports, visualizations, and/or statistics while documenting code and adhering to data management principles
  • Advanced proficiency in at least 1 visualization tool (i.e. Domo,Tableau, R, Python) with willingness and ability to learn additional visualizations tools
  • Extensive exposure to: visualization, coding, business consulting, data mining, statistical analysis, and collaboration with business partners
  • Experience using analytical techniques to create scalable solutions and help automate key processes
  • Ability to learn, use, and teach reporting tools
  • Understand BI and Data dependencies
  • Stays current with new and evolving technologies via formal training and self-directed education
