Writer - House Public Information Services

A full-time temporary position is available with the Minnesota House of Representatives as a writer for the nonpartisan Public Information Services office. The office supports the mission of the House of Representatives through news and information services, including: reporting on committees and floor sessions, informational publications, photography and television coverage.

Duties are to write online content during the 2022 legislative session, including daily committee and floor session coverage and longer feature stories. Strong reporting and writing skills are required, and news reporting experience is strongly encouraged. Must be able to write clearly and quickly about complex subjects.

Must have a willingness to do a variety of tasks, including proofing and possibly some social media activity. Understanding of state government, legislative and office procedures a must. Some long and irregular hours required.

The House plans to continue remote and hybrid operations at least through the end of the 2022 regular session, although that policy could change as health and safety conditions evolve. It is anticipated most writer work will be done remotely.

Entry salary range is $23.06 - $27.67 per hour, commensurate with experience. This position is to begin in late January and run approximately through the end of May, depending on session length.
