This role is for an engineering student seeking experience with high power lithium-ion battery pack design and development. This person would be trained to develop the electrical and electromechanical aspects of Lithium-Ion battery packs. The battery packs will have a variety of shapes, sizes, voltages, power, and energy levels due to the vast breadth of equipment manufactured by The Toro Company.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

This engineer will work closely with a small team of electrical, mechanical, software, systems, and manufacturing engineers to march the battery design out of the conceptual feasibility stage and into the mass production stage. The surrounding engineering team will help develop this individual’s technical design and project management skills. The volume of technical design work will increase gradually as the person gains confidence. From the outset, the individual will be responsible for assisting our staff engineers with battery development tasks that are critical for our mass production timelines, but they will also have the opportunity to drive their own battery R&D project that does not have a mass production timeline. At the culmination of each term, it is our goal that the student can confidently report out on at least two accomplishments:

  • A significant contribution to a product launch that is clearly visible in the market
  • New skills developed by completing a new product design or concept that they developed in earnest with the support and training of Toro’s subject matter experts

Job Qualifications:

  • Working towards a bachelor’s degree in an engineering field such as electrical, computer, mechanical, industrial, aerospace, or biomedical engineering.
  • We require interns to be enrolled in an educational program during the duration of the internship program.
  • This is an entry level role, so relevant internships, extracurriculars and other part time experiences are highly desired. No full time engineering experience required.
  • Experience and interest in the areas of electronic design, chemistry, batteries, embedded systems, or robotics is desired.
