Work Location: Work from home, in the office or hybrid (in the office 3 or more days per week)

Position Description

This position is responsible for assisting with identifying and addressing opportunities to improve the cultural congruence between UCare's provider network and members served by UCare products. This position will develop, implement and manage provider contracting activities that will advance health equity by ensuring that whenever possible, UCare members can be served by providers of their cultural, geographic or demographic background.

• Collaborate with UCare's County and Tribal Government Relations Managers, Provider Network Analysts, Healthcare Economics, Equity & Inclusion team and others, to identify providers that serve specific cultural or demographic groups that are not already in UCare's provider network.

• Initiate and orchestrate recruitment, contracting, and related development efforts to ensure that providers from under-represented backgrounds are added to the UCare provider network as appropriate.

• Lead and coordinate contract negotiations and contracting processes for provider partners, including contract completion. Develop documentation that allows contractual terms to be implemented in the system timely and accurately. Ensure contracts and payment terms are negotiated in accordance with established contract administration policies and procedures, including state, federal, and other regulatory requirements.

• Coordinate regularly scheduled meetings with contracted providers to provide timely communication, effective education, enhanced provider relationships and collaboration around emerging equity opportunities. Effectively problem solve and triage issues, where appropriate. Work with providers to gather data on cultural representativeness of their provider panels.

• Participate on internal workgroups, including those related to UCare's health equity programs to address, opportunities, ongoing provider issues or operational changes.

• Other projects and duties as assigned.


Bachelor's degree in health care management, business or related field; demonstrated experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

Required Experience

Three years of contract negotiation and health care experience in a health insurance plan or health care provider setting. Experience working collaboratively with diverse internal and external stakeholders. Knowledge of managed care operations.

Preferred Experience

Knowledge of Minnesota provider market, especially those non-traditional provider groups. Awareness of current and projected Minnesota population demographics.
