Job Purpose:

The Regional Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for providing strategic direction, developing, planning, coordinating and directing activities within the framework of The Toro Company EHS program for the Sourcing & Supply Chain department. This role will have site EHS program responsibility at the Plymouth, Wisconsin Parts Distribution Warehouse and Distribution Centers in Baraboo, Wisconsin; Tomah, Wisconsin; Ankeny, Iowa; El Paso, Texas; Sanford, Florida; El Cajon, California; and Fresno, California. The role will also work closely with Corporate Sourcing & Supply Chain to develop and implement programs that drive EHS improvements with parts and manufacturing supplies.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic direction and oversight, aligned with Corporate EHS programs, policies and procedures for Sourcing & Supply Chain department.
  • Develop and implement programs to ensure products obtained through suppliers and vendors meet workplace EHS requirements.
  • Drive improvements in parts warehouse and distribution center EHS performance through utilization of trend analysis, corporate programs and vendor tools and programs.
  • Ensuring compliance with EHS programs and regulations through education of site leadership on their role in managing business and team member activities.
  • Partner with site leadership to develop and achieve annual EHS goals.
  • Build engagement of facility leadership and workers in proactive safety performance.
  • Works with all levels of personnel to ensure 100% compliance with applicable regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT, DNR, DEQ, etc.).
  • Drive monthly EHS performance reporting.
  • Lead compliance requirements for all modes of transportation for the shipment of hazardous materials and dangerous goods.
  • Develops and implements consistent dock, yard, and trailer safety activities at all Sourcing & Supply Chain facilities.
  • Manages correspondence and site visits with regulatory agencies.
  • Creates training curriculum and programs to ensure regulatory compliance and improve overall safety culture. Trains others, including train the trainer, and follows through to determine overall effectiveness.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of EHS programs and tools and implement updates to enhance effectiveness (i.e. JHA, BBS, Hazard ID, etc.).
  • Organize and launch joint a safety committee at each Sourcing & Supply Chain location and ensure their effectiveness.
  • Review all capital projects and expenditures for compliance with regulatory standards and company policies.
  • Conducts internal incident investigations to determine root cause(s) and drive the implementation of corrective and preventative measures.
  • Plan, design and implement strategies and procedures to assure location is fully in compliance with regulatory requirements as well as corporate programs, including but not limited to, a corrective action log to address concerns from employees, audits, and inspections, safety committee, safety scorecard, ergonomic assessments, safety data sheets, etc.
  • Engages with site management to evaluate EHS performance and develop corrective action plans as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • One or more applicable certificate preferred (i.e. CSP, CIH, CHMM, etc.). Must obtain within 3 years after starting in the role.
  • 7 – 10 years, with 5 or more of those years leading and building comprehensive safety programs with evidence of continuous improvement.
  • Strong warehouse safety acumen, to include: powered industrial vehicles, pallet racking, conveyors, docks, material handling, semi-truck and trailer, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills, both formal and informal.
  • Ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong analytical, negotiating, presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Previous experience leading others and directing teams and/or committees.
  • Ability to conceive, develop, and execute EHS-related projects and programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge developing and delivering hands-on health and safety training.
  • Knowledgeable and able to interpret and train changing standards, concepts, practices, and procedures within the health, safety and environmental fields.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision.

    • Primarily first shift with periodic work on second and third shifts
  • Physical demands:
    • Requires walking, bending, kneeling and standing for extended periods of time.
    • Periodically carries equipment or tools weighing up to 25 lbs.
    • Personal protective equipment must be worn in warehouse and building exterior, which includes: safety toe footwear with metatarsal guarding, high-visibility vest, eye protection
