The Indirect Planning team develops full-stack custom applications which support the process of purchasing items needed to run Target. We currently own and support four custom developed applications and are working to enhance these applications to streamline business processes. Within the next year, we are also planning to start development of a new purchase forecasting application in support of opening new stores and remodeling existing.

As a Sr Engineer on the Indirect Planning team, you serve as a specialist in the engineering team that supports a platform which increases the efficiency of planning and purchasing non-retail goods. You can distill an abstract architecture into concrete design and influence the implementation. You have substantial expertise in applying appropriate software engineering patterns and in programming to build robust and scalable systems. You show good problem-solving skills and can help the team in triaging operational issues. You help the engineers around you learn and grow because you understand the value of a strong team.

As a Sr Engineer in the Indirect Planning product team, you will:

• Be a significant code contributor, own and be accountable for your work, drive best practices and ensure the development of high-quality code.
• Lead, conduct and participate in code reviews, design reviews, testing and debugging at the application level.
• Be a great team player and help build a team of high caliber software development engineers through mentorship and leading by example.
• Drive resolution of technology roadblocks including code, infrastructure, build and deployment.
• In complex and unstructured situations, serve as an expert resource to ensure high-performance, scalable, repeatable, and secure deliverables.
• Account for maintainability, cost of ownership, mitigating and removing risks.
• Initiate and execute research and proof-of-concepts where you will consider technologies, frameworks, design patterns, processes and guiding values of the domain and architecture.
• Stay current with Target's technical capabilities, infrastructure, and technical environment.
• Ensure all code adheres to all development & security standards.
• Take rotating on-call responsibilities.

About you:

• 4-year degree or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of software development experience with at least one full cycle implementation
• Experience in backend development using a JVM language (preferably Java) and microservices
• Experience in testing frameworks, various types of tests (unit, integration, functional, etc.) and CICD
• Demonstrates strong domain-specific knowledge regarding Target's technology capabilities, and key competitors' products and differentiating features
• Demonstrates strong proficiency in core development platforms within own domain
• Working knowledge in analysis and optimization of systems capacity, performance, and operational health
• Communicates and coordinates with project team, partners, and stakeholders
• Builds strong commitment within the team to support the appropriate team priorities
• Stays current with new and evolving technologies via formal training and self-directed education
• Bonus points if you are a full-stack capable
