Job Purpose:

Provide support and expertise in the areas of maintenance, repair, and calibration records for electronic instrumentation and data acquisition systems. Software support specialist for new software applications and maintenance of all Test lab computers. Technical support specialist to Product Evaluation personnel in the use of instrumentation and data acquisition systems.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Assist in the selection, training, and usage of data acquisition equipment and systems.

2. Work with vendors and service suppliers to maintain maximum resource up time. Diagnose failures and initiate appropriate service procedures. Negotiate and administer service contracts as appropriate. Act as primary contact with associated vendors and service suppliers.

3. Maintain operating system and application software. Install new and updated software releases. Reload software as required due to hardware failures.

4. Define, research and procure software to aid in portable data acquisition systems.

5. Periodically review laboratory computers for capacity, reliability, and performance. Identify and propose hardware and software to support increased lab resources.

6. Investigate new technologies for applicability to The Toro Company (TTC) Engineering departments. Upon approval, test and implement technologies. Provide the means for new users to become trained in the application of the new technology.

7. Troubleshoot and repair lab equipment as required, including OEM test systems.

8. Act as a liaison representing Engineering Technical Services (ETS) and TTC Engineering departments with the TTC IT department.

9. Participate in computer user groups of companies using similar hardware and software.

10. Lead calibration processes for instrumentation and tools using best practices.

11. Work with product development teams to provide engineering skills e.g. analysis, prior experiences, and basic engineering problem solving techniques. As appropriate, make visits to field to understand the needs of the customer or end user.

12. Exercise fiscal responsibility during the year in the purchase of equipment and supplies and make appropriate recommendations to department leadership for future spending.

Job Qualifications:

  • Two year Associate degree in Computer Science, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Automotive Technology or other Engineering discipline required.
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in areas of instrumentation repair and computer systems maintenance.
  • Must be able to solve engineering related computer problems when given direction and leadership.

  • Dedication to the productivity of users and serving our customer needs.
  • After normal hours work may be required to assure maximum up-time during prime working hours.
  • Some travel is required to remote sites, plants, customers, and user group meetings.
