About us:

As a Fortune 50 company with more than 350,000 team members worldwide, Target is an iconic brand and one of America's leading retailers.

Working at Target means the opportunity to help all families discover the joy of everyday life. Caring for our communities is woven into who we are, and we invest in the places we collectively live, work and play. We prioritize relationships, fuel and develop talent by creating growth opportunities, and succeed as one Target team. At our core, our purpose is ingrained in who we are, what we value, and how we work. It's how we care, grow, and win together.

Target Legal Affairs is a dynamic and deeply knowledgeable team of legal professionals, each with valuable expertise from several disciplines. This team advocates for Target and its business in communities across the nation and works across the entire company to provide internal clients with business and legal advice. Here, you'll enjoy working autonomously with a healthy work-life balance. Your passion for learning our business and building relationships with senior leaders and key business partners will be essential to tackling the ever-changing legal challenges we face in a dynamic and fast-paced retail landscape. You'll be challenged and gratified by a role with Target Legal Affairs.

Within Target Legal Affairs, the Operational Strategies team provides value-added legal support to the business teams responsible for acquiring the goods, services and technology that Target relies on for its operations. In the role as Lead Paralegal on the Operational Strategies team, you will work on a variety of transactions and negotiations in support of our enterprise-wide sourcing and procurement objectives. Your analytic skills and your ability to draft and negotiate will positively impact commercial contracts for goods, services (including transportation and carrier contracts), and technology (including hardware agreements, software licenses, and software as a service (SaaS) agreements).

As a Lead Paralegal (Operational Strategies), you will play an integral role in a variety of transactions and regularly represent the law department through direct contact with clients and vendor representatives. You will draft and negotiate commercial contracts, balance risk and reward, and be a thought partner for the business. Job duties may change at any time due to business needs.

About you:
  • College degree or ABA-approved paralegal certificate.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience as a paralegal in a transactional or contracts-based practice with experience negotiating and drafting contracts for a variety of transactions, including goods, services, transportation, and technology.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to tailor message by audience and deliver clear and concise advice in a timely manner.
  • Curious, pro-active, and motivated to learn about the businesses you support.
  • Demonstrate innovative and creative problem solving skills with strong leadership.
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage ambiguity, risk and uncertainty and proactively anticipate issues.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish rapport and collaborate effectively across departments and externally.
  • Highly organized with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and work with varied client groups.
