Major Function

Develop and maintain training materials and process documentation for the Plymouth DC Operations, including SOPs and training materials for both office and warehouse hourly staff. Pursue, evaluate, and coordinate/conduct new training opportunities on an ongoing basis. Provide classroom and on the job training for new and current employees. Responsible for developing, maintaining, and conducting safety and security training programs. Also responsible for maintaining facility safety programs and procedures related to federal and state OSHA and other applicable regulatory agencies.

Provide key contact support with procedure verification, escalated issues, problem resolution, and continuous improvement initiatives. Support the management team with reporting.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain all current and new departmental procedures.
  • Work with subject matter experts to create and maintain training materials (including presentations, job aids, handouts, posters, web conferences, and e-learning) based on adult learning theory.
  • Assists/coordinates safety training and awareness activities within facility to ensure effective training, proper documentation and recordkeeping.
  • Maintains safety training programs to ensure compliance with OSHA and other regulatory agencies. Provides guidance and information to supervision and management regarding safety training requirements and compliance related to employee health and safety.
  • Conducts safety inspections and audits to assure hazard control, risk reduction and safety behaviors.
  • Work with Continuous Improvement to support location initiatives.
  • Evaluate, design, and facilitate required departmental training for all employees to include train the trainer, technology, and process changes.
  • Deliver logistical support for training programs, to include maintaining the training delivery schedule and providing technical support for web-based training.
  • Maintain training records and prepare completion and outcome reports.
  • Collect and analyze data on training effectiveness through surveys, observations, and performance measures.
  • Implement improvements to training programs based on evaluation and performance data.
  • Ensure quality and efficiency of operations office staff processes, including but not limited to shipment picking, international orders, and hazardous order processing. Work in partnership with the management team to identify and address areas for improvement.
  • Utilize project management and process improvement tools, conduct testing, training, and troubleshooting of processes to ensure maximum efficiency and workflow with the least amount of waste.
  • Utilize Lean and continuous improvement methodologies for problem solving, process layout, flow, business process redesign, change management, 5S, 5 Whys, Standard Work, Kaizen, Kanban, and TPM; train process owners in these methodologies as needed.
  • Assist in processing hazardous shipping documents. Must obtain and remain current with Hazardous Shippers Certification.
  • Assist in the process of cataloging and maintaining correct Safety Data Sheets for all hazardous materials stored at the Plymouth DC.
  • Work cross-functionally with Plymouth management, inventory control, and domestic/international order services groups to provide training and process documentation to warehouse staff.
  • Provide backup assistance for the operations office supervisor and staff with daily customer service and order maintenance activities, as needed.
  • All other projects, tasks, and assignments as needed/requested.

Specifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in education, communication, or other related field; two-year degree with applicable experience will be considered
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience developing and conducting training programs with tools and methods in Lean, continuous improvement, or other known improvement systems
  • Demonstrated ability to teach, mentor, and coach across multiple levels of an operation; dynamic classroom facilitation required
  • Proven ability to use systematic problem solving to solve challenges
  • Strong leadership and change agent skills
  • Able to overcome obstacles using positive facilitation, teamwork, and influence through building and maintaining relationships
  • Proven ability to understand people, behaviors, and the importance of the training component and how they align with business needs and expectations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal relations skills to support teaming, collaboration, and problem solving
  • Strong project leadership/management abilities
  • Tactful in conflict resolution situations
  • Must be able to work effectively in high pressure situations in a fast paced environment
  • Aptitude to learn rapidly and adapt quickly to changing situations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Workday, and SAP preferred

Job Dimensions

  • Typical office environment as it pertains to lighting, temperature, and noise level when in administrative/operations offices.
  • Ability to move throughout the warehouse.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and mouse, and to handle other computer components.
