Job Details

The Facilities Department at St. Catherine University invites applications for a full-time Lead Custodian position.

Our Custodians provide a clean, healthy, and attractive environment for our college students, faculty, staffs, and guests. In addition, our team assists in reporting maintenance and safety concerns as they are noticed. The Lead Custodian provides leadership and guidance to the custodial staff, assists in training team members and checking their performance quality, recording work performed. We have two schedules available:

Tuesday - Saturday, 5:30am - 2:00pm
Sunday - Thursday, 4:00pm - 12:30am


Responsibilities include:
  • Collaborate with management and team to create the best outcomes and foster great working relationships.
  • Perform and train in efficient team cleaning procedures and custodial project work
  • Check in with supervisor/manager to review daily assignments.
  • Check keys in and out while assigning work.
  • Assist management in overseeing the completion of the daily custodial work and coordination of special projects, furniture moving, set-ups, event cleaning from work order requests or periodic schedules.
  • Participate in staff training on area assignments, cleaning procedures and proper use of equipment and supplies.
  • Model good attendance and punctuality.
  • Maintain daily logs, project logs, and inventory control as needed.
  • Act as relief for open positions or absent staff in regular custodian positions.
  • Take care of assigned area daily following specific schedules, remaining flexible to the needs of the college and filling in for absent staff and assisting others when needed.
  • Performing general and detail cleaning of offices, classrooms, dorm rooms, restrooms & showers, common areas, lounges, kitchens, sports facilities, etc.
  • Dusting, mopping, vacuuming, and sweeping all types of hard floors, flooring, stairs, and all fixtures and removing spots and stains from carpet as needed.
  • Removal of trash and recycling, including collection from other areas and bringing to dumpsters in various locations and making sure all trash areas are in order, reporting the need to have dumpsters and compactors emptied and serviced.
  • Removing snow and ice on a seasonal basis.
  • Reporting all problems or repairs to the supervisor, or submitting work orders

Minimum Qualifications
  • Two years of institutional cleaning experience.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Complete driver's training for campus driving, including an internal driver's test.
  • Able to pass a criminal background check in order, to carry university assigned keys and have access to all areas as needed.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75lbs and carry and work from a 12' stepladder or lift.




Preferred Qualifications
  • Three years of experience in institutional cleaning with knowledge and abilities to train on all types of custodial project work.
  • Able to read and understand product information labels, Safety Data sheets, work orders, written instructions and be able report all problems or repairs needed.
  • Experience issuing verbal and written instructions to custodial staff and coordinating activities with the rest of the university community.
  • Knowledgeable in cleaning chemicals and their usage.
  • Must be experienced and able to perform routine custodial duties in an team cleaning environment: general office/classroom cleaning, restroom/shower cleaning, trash and recycle removal, snow and ice removal, light bulb replacement as well as special cleaning projects.
