Ballard Spahr has a new opportunity available for a Professional Development Analyst to leverage technology and ensure the integrity of data collection to streamline and improve Attorney Career Advancement (“ACA”) processes and reporting.  Along with the Manager of Development Systems and Projects, this position serves as a technical liaison between ACA and other Ballard Spahr departments.  The Analyst will also support upgrades, patches, user acceptance testing and other technical and process related projects as assigned. This position is remote if located in Arizona, California, Delaware, District of Columbia, Georgia, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Pennsylvania, South Dakota or Utah with the expectation to work in the office, as needed. 

Our Analyst will:

  • Leverage technology to support and enhance the professional development initiatives of the Attorney Career Advancement (“ACA”) Department by serving as a system administrator, providing first-level technical support on all applications;
  • Administer the automated software solutions of the ACA department;
  • Manage the data, systems, and reporting related to ACL development and compensation processes;
  • Maintain the confidentiality of attorney information;
  • Facilitate a cooperative relationship between IS, HR and ACA by acting as a liaison among the groups.

This position will also collaborate with the Manager of Development Systems and Projects on various projects such as the semi-annual lawyer evaluation process, annual lawyer compensation and bonus process and the annual partnership admission process as well as maintain data that supports these processes. 

Requirements include a high level of collaboration within the Attorney Career Advancement Department, firm administration and attorneys; the ability to engage with people at all levels of the firm; familiarity with and working knowledge of professional development processes, human resources processes and HRIS applications in a legal environment.

Applicants should have critical thinking skills, the aptitude to translate business needs into technical solutions, and analyze all of the current electronic resources to make sound recommendations for efficient solutions. Excellent organizational, communication, good judgement and problem solving skills, along with the ability to maintain the confidentiality of data and exercise discretion. Strong business and work ethic required.

Requirements include 1-3 years of recent relevant work experience in a legal or professional services environment and a high level of proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook as well as the ability to adapt to new software programs. Workday experience a plus. Approximately 20% of travel required.
