Sr. Electrical Systems Engineer

Exmark Manufacturing, a division of The Toro Company, is looking for a Sr. Electrical Systems Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team at our Beatrice, NE location. The ideal candidate is a strong team player possessing a passion for enhancing customer value through innovative and resourceful electrical systems development.

As a Sr. Electrical Systems Engineer you will be creating vehicle, system, and component level requirements, developing system architecture, producing Functional Safety work products, and designing E/E/PE systems. You will be embedded into a cross-functional, agile product development team and work with subject matter experts from other teams to share best practices and standardize development processes across the company.


Job Responsibilities

  • Architect electrical, electronic, and programmable electronic systems in function and safety that are scalable for future needs
  • Develop electrical system & component requirements leveraging product knowledge, competitive benchmarking, industry standards, and input from stakeholders.
  • Specify and integrate various components and sub-systems in the development of vehicle electrical systems. Development may include electrical, software, and/or controls tasks.
  • Produce Functional Safety work products.
  • Perform engineering analysis to predict the behavior and failure modes of the proposed designs. Analysis tools may include closed form solutions or electronic simulation programs.
  • Design to applicable regulatory standards i.e., ISO, EN, C.S.A., U.L., or other applicable standards. Work with the agencies to provide certification within project time line.
  • Develop and evaluate requirements for software interface solutions and customizations between systems which may include battery management systems, vehicle controllers, autonomous control systems, and charger communication.
  • Responsible for supporting and assisting in the building of prototypes.
  • Drive verification of requirements including coordination of test execution, analysis of test results, and root cause investigation and resolution of failed test cases.
  • Support internal and external testing to document and validate compliance to requirements and industry standards.
  • Identify design issues in a cohesive manner and is able to effectively communicate the technical information to support root cause investigations.
  • Implement and continuously improve processes and systems used in E/E/PE system development and Functional Safety product development.
  • Provide product support to areas such as but not exclusively: Legal, Test, Manufacturing, Marketing, Sales, and Customer Service.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education/Experience Guidance

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, systems engineering or other relevant field.

5 + years of related experience preferred. In addition, they will have demonstrated many of the following:

  • Experience working successfully with teams of peers, internal stakeholders and suppliers to meet aggressive quality and performance objectives.
  • Strong communication skills, good organizational and time management skills, and the ability to identify needed actions and act to resolve issues with minimal oversight.
  • Authoring requirements, developing test-cases, and establishing traceability in a process that supports product development in accordance with a functional safety process.
  • Experience with requirements management tools.
  • Electrical system development including electrical design, software development, and system integration.
  • Understanding of feedback control systems for motor and power control.
  • Creative approach to solving problems and able to own issue resolution from data collection, data analysis, root cause identification, solution set generation, and selection of optimal solution
  • Ability to communicate technical subjects in a clear, concise manner to multiple levels of the organization
  • Understands electrical system design concepts to support system development, system and component qualification.
  • Experience with testing and creating automated methods for testing electrical systems and components
  • Basic understanding of network and communications technology – CAN, TCP/IP, Ethernet, UART, Bluetooth, etc.
  • Solid understanding of programming techniques using C, C++, C#, Python, or similar languages.
  • Experience with basic electrical and mechanical assembly fabrication including cabling for power electronics and sensors
