About us:

As a Fortune 50 company with more than 350,000 team members worldwide, Target is an iconic brand and one of America's leading retailers.

Working at Target means the opportunity to help all families discover the joy of everyday life. Caring for our communities is woven into who we are, and we invest in the places we collectively live, work and play. We prioritize relationships, fuel and develop talent by creating growth opportunities, and succeed as one Target team. At our core, our purpose is ingrained in who we are, what we value, and how we work. It's how we care, grow, and win together.

Right on pace with Target's distinctive retail brand, Target Store Operations is transforming for the better. Here, your work directly supports the store mission to be the guest-favorite through successfully developing and communicating the processes for operations, structure, model, technology and workforce management activities at +1,900 locations nationwide. Store Operations manages and enhances the informational resources for researching and resolving operational issues, while guiding and communicating with the field team and leaders who use them. Are you a customer service enthusiast who can actively listen to many points of view and then visualize how they'll perform when operationalized in a store? Are you happy to partner with leaders as well as field team members who are often the experts on how well a process is working? Can you offer specific and valuable experience within the massive store operations scope? Do you possess the innovative mindset to question the status quo, and the confidence to work under varying degrees of ambiguity and well-informed experimentation? Then you'll have success on one of our dynamic teams. A role within Store Communications means a big opportunity to continuously improve the communication channels between Target Corporate and our team members and leaders in the field.

As Senior Managing Editor, you will serve as a seasoned writer and storyteller, editor, project manager and communications strategist, all with the goal of sharing Target's story and strengthening audience engagement internally. You'll sit with a team of talented writers and designers, responsible for our communications platforms.

  • Editorial excellence - you'll help maintain the editorial consistency, voice and tone of our store communications channels with daily editing duties. You'll help strengthen stories with first edits, and ensure consistency and quality with final proofing. You'll help operationalize the mission, voice, tone and audience needs of each channel, in every story.
  • Channel management - you'll manage the editorial calendar, collaborating with the team on weekly lineups that balance business needs with a strong storytelling cadence. You will serve as project manager across the channel teams for content packages with multiple elements and producers. And you will lead the documentation of processes for our editorial work.
  • Top-notch writing - you'll also be on the front line of the creation of stories that share operational priorities, including planning and execution details. You'll concept, report and write stories for signature communications channels. Developing expert knowledge across a series of subject areas, you'll plan storytelling narratives for those areas and maintain a "beat" relationship with key partners.
  • Operational support - you'll partner closely with colleagues across the enterprise leading communication efforts for stores that have the potential to impact the reputation of Target.
  • Internal Communication - you'll be on the front-line of developing and supporting our internal communication efforts for Store Operations, supporting our internal newsletter and executive communication needs.
  • Collaboration - because you work across so many disparate partners to accomplish daily tasks, a knack for understanding and distilling complex projects and topics and the ability to collaborate successfully is critical.
  • Innovation - you'll bring an innovative approach to your work, helping keep our channel content fresh, engaging and cutting-edge, all while keeping its core consistently excellent. And you'll work with the team to develop new ways to engage our audiences.

About You:
  • 7-plus years of related work experience; including editing, writing, reporting, project management and communications skills
  • Strong editorial judgement with ability to focus on both a broad, strategic vision and small, critical details
  • Strong organizational habits and ability to project manage with efficiency and diplomacy
  • Ability to develop and execute multiple projects at once and against very tight deadlines and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Knowledge of AP Style
  • Prior experience working in web-based content management systems
