A role on the Middle Mile team in Global Transportation and Logistics means managing the movement of inventory from Target node to Target node through collaboration across pyramids, consistent execution of standardized processes, and carrier performance management to drive optimal execution and on time performance for our Target teams and Guests.

As a Middle Mile Logistics Analyst-Backhaul, you are responsible for partnering closely with multiple teams to analyze, identify, and implement potential solutions that allow for empty miles reduction. Responsibilities include monitoring and validating backhaul movements and performance, executing backhaul growth initiatives, and establishing best practices to align with key priorities. The purpose of the Target Backhaul Program is to improve route and asset utilization, with an ultimate goal of lowering total expenses to Target. Your focus will be goal-centric expansion to backhaul by identifying additional vendor and facilities that support empty mile reduction and lowering of expense.

Responsibilities:
  • Monitoring and reviewing carrier performance vs expectations with operational teams; supporting carrier performance management
  • Responsible for providing solutions that consider the financial and operational impacts to Target
  • Monitors and validates the impacts of backhaul movements and uses data to support recommendations
  • Executes current program initiatives and ensures all dimensions are considered in order to establish financially beneficial utilization and optimization
  • Engage with internal and external partners to drive the business forward
  • Challenges existing processes where appropriate
  • Drive collaboration across key partners
  • Utilize and improve backhaul assessment tools and reporting
  • Publish savings reporting weekly

Requirements:
  • 4-year degree or equivalent experience
  • Relevant experience within supply chain sourcing/procurement, logistics, transportation industry
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate data insights to others
  • Self-motivated and demonstrates initiative; demonstrates ability to work independently
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel & Word

Desired Requirements:
  • Experience in backhaul management or carrier management
  • Understanding of PC Miler, JDA, VMM


This position may be considered for a Full-Time Remote or Hybrid work arrangement based on Target's needs. A Hybrid work arrangement means the team members core role will be a blend of virtual and onsite at a Target location. A Full-Time Remote work arrangement means the team member works full-time from home or an alternate location that's not a Target location, does not have a desk at their primary HQ work location and may travel to HQ up to 4 times a year.

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada residents is $49,700 to $89,500.
