The Business Office at Saint John’s University invites applications for the full-time, benefit eligible position of Senior Accountant.

Under the supervision of the Controller, this position is responsible to ensure proper accounting and budget oversight of the Student Development, Athletics, Bible Heritage Edition, Artist in Residence, Custodial, Grounds, and other areas across campus.  This position plays an integral part of the annual year end close and audit process.

  1. Acts as budget officer for the Student Development area, which includes Life Safety, Health Center Services, Campus Ministry, Residential Life/Campus Life, Faculty Residents, Student Activities/Life Fees, Student Clubs, Student Senate, Counseling & Health Promotions, PP&D and Dean of Students.
  2. Works with staff to establish and monitor budgets, creates monthly reports for departments, and works with the Student Development department to balance areas within budget.


  1. Oversee all SJU athletic budgets and manage all funding activities.
  2. Prepare monthly entries for online ticket sales.
  3. Reconcile all ticket sales for on-campus athletic ticketed events
  4. Manage vehicle usage/purchases.
  5. Liaison between Athletics & IA to ensure donor intent is being followed.
  6. Manage the Gagliardi Dome budgets & ensure ongoing funding availability


  1. Acts as the budget officer and performs the accounting functions for the St. John’s Bible Heritage program.
  2. Liaison with Executive Director of the Heritage Program to ensure proper accounting of sales and inventory.


  1. Oversees financial accounting for operating divisions under the consolidated SJU.
  2. Performs all year end adjusting entries needed.
  3. Prepares budgets and staffs committee meetings as needed.​


  1. Oversee Sports Marketing budgets & Athletic rental activities.
  2. Write and manage campus leases and related monthly payment activity​


  1. Acts as budget officer liaison to Custodial Services and Grounds.
  2. Oversees the Saint John’s University Transportation program (buses, vans, and cars).
  3. Acts as business office liaison to the Saint John’s University’s English as a Second Language (ESL) academic program, and summer sport camp programs.
  4. Conducts routine financial, operational, and compliance audits to ensure compliance with institution’s financial policies and procedures.
  5. Provide corporate digital payment oversight.  
  6. Calculates and records allocations/direct charges for Custodial Services, Grounds, Life Safety, Autos, Building and Business Office, UPS/Mail Delivery, and Insurance.
  7. Responsible for fiscal year end closing of Student Development, Campus Mail and Duplicating, Athletic Camps, ESL Camps, Athletics, Transportation, Physical Plant Operations, Professional Development Awards, and the Artist in Residence Program.
  8. Prepares financial statements for the University by using auditor’s software program.   Downloads general ledger accounts and balances, codes accounts according to their presentation in the financial statements.    Assists in the financial statement preparation of the CAS, SOT, HMML and AIR.   Prepares consolidated statements for St. John’s University.
  9. Prepare 990T supporting documentation related to Sports Marketing, SOT, Dining & Events, Bookstore, and athletic facility rentals.
  10. Process Minnesota unemployment insurance payments.
  11. Performs other duties as required.


  1. Baccalaureate degree in accounting or related field required and C.P.A. preferred.
  2. Demonstrated middle level management experience in a complex financial computing system, preferably in a nonprofit organization.
  3. Demonstrates strong analytical skills and ability to provide leadership in an academic community.
  4. Ability to maintain flexibility, exercise individual initiative, participate actively in cross training, and collaborate with other members of the Corporation.
  5. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
