A role on the Middle Mile team in Global Transportation and Logistics means managing the movement of inventory from Target node to Target node through collaboration across pyramids, consistent execution of standardized processes, and carrier performance management to drive optimal execution and on time performance for our Target teams and Guests.

As a Middle Mile Sr Logistics Analyst-Backhaul, you will play a central role in supporting the current and future backhaul roadmap, executing against both short and long term program goals while holding support partners, both internal and external, accountable to key performance indicators along the way. This role will identify, analyze and lead the activation of new backhaul growth opportunities for both existing and prospective we-pay vendor suppliers and 3PL facility locations, with the primary goal of reducing empty miles and increasing asset utilization, to ultimately lower total expenses to Target. Not only will this role support backhaul growth, but will also ensure the advancement made is sustainable as well. This highly collaborative role is responsible for working cross-functionally alongside experts from across the organization to understand both pre-existing/future roadblocks and how to strategically solve problems to advance the backhaul mission, including but not limited to Field Operations, Safety, Engineering and Facilities, Store Operations, Construction, Properties, First Mile Transportation, Last Mile Transportation, IRL, Food and Beverage, Network Planning, Inventory Management and Data Sciences. This role will also utilize a wide variety of applications and tools to accomplish analysis, such as Excel/Access, Domestic Transportation Manager (JDA/Blue Yonder), VRS, VMM, Mercury/Apollo Tracking, NTA, Smartsheet and Greenfield/Domo.

Responsibilities:
  • Analyze and provide recommendations for new backhaul opportunities based on analysis scoping from both internal and external key support partners, as well as self-executed identification and research
  • Take conversion decision(s) from backhaul program leadership and own operational activation/rollout planning
  • Coordinate and lead new backhaul node carrier, vendor and field onboarding management
  • Measure and track sustainability for new backhaul conversion growth, and ensure partners, both internal and external, are held accountable to continuous execution
  • Identify carrier performance management trends for all domestic regions serviced by Target and hold strategic partners accountable to operational key performance indicator goals, including but not limited to On-Time Pickup/Delivery %, Deadhead % and EDI Compliance %
  • Identify and maintain current and future financial productivity savings processes; track and publish productivity performance to both operational and financial partners as well as provide contextual input in productivity performance compared to goal
  • Create and maintain updates to core backhaul team internal standard operating procedures and external partner documentation


Requirements:
  • 4-year degree in supply chain, operations, economics or other related field or equivalent experience
  • Proven track record of taking ownership and driving results
  • Cross-functional leadership experience
  • Analytical, creative and innovative approach to solving problems
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills and demonstrated ability to tailor communication to different audiences
  • Self-motivated and demonstrates initiative to learn and grow in areas with grey space
  • Strong root-cause analysis track record and ability to problem solve independently
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word & PowerPoint


Desired Requirements:
  • Previous experience in transportation, logistics or carrier/vendor management
  • Understanding of JDA & PC Miler


This position may be considered for a Full-Time Remote or Hybrid work arrangement based on Target's needs. A Hybrid work arrangement means the team members core role will be a blend of virtual and onsite at a Target location. A Full-Time Remote work arrangement means the team member works full-time from home or an alternate location that's not a Target location, does not have a desk at their primary HQ work location and may travel to HQ up to 4 times a year.

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada residents is $65,600 to $118,100.
