About us:

As a Fortune 50 company with more than 350,000 team members worldwide, Target is an iconic brand and one of America's leading retailers.

Working at Target means the opportunity to help all families discover the joy of everyday life. Caring for our communities is woven into who we are, and we invest in the places we collectively live, work and play. We prioritize relationships, fuel and develop talent by creating growth opportunities, and succeed as one Target team. At our core, our purpose is ingrained in who we are, what we value, and how we work. It's how we care, grow, and win together.

Target as a tech company? Absolutely. We're the behind-the-scenes powerhouse that fuels Target's passion and commitment to cutting-edge innovation. We anchor every facet of one of the world's best-loved retailers with a strong technology framework that relies on the latest tools and technologies-and the brightest people-to deliver incredible value to guests online and in stores. Target Technology Services is on a mission to offer the systems, tools and support that guests and team members need and deserve. Our high-performing teams balance independence with collaboration, and we pride ourselves on being versatile, agile and creative. We drive industry-leading technologies in support of every angle of the business, and help ensure that Target operates smoothly, securely and reliably from the inside out.

In Corporate Systems, we make retail possible. We provide the tech to keep everyone and everything safe and dry. We turn on the lights and keep frozen food frozen. We help designers create new store concepts. We keep track of the money. We help ensure that guests pay for products, provide the technology for guests to pay for products, and help ensure that our team members know when to show up to work and that they get paid.

We use technology to make Target environmentally sustainable, reduce bias and increase equity for Guests and Team Members, give our workforce more flexibility and a safe working environment, ensure that we are reporting our results to our investors accurately, and we provide the tech to save our guests a billion dollars a year with Target RedCard.

We do all this with amazing technology. We are software engineers who build what Target needs. We work with mountains of financial data to drive business decisions. We process two billion Target GiftCard and twenty billion RedCard transactions per year. We use computer vision, machine learning, and Internet of Things devices. We aim to provide our team members and guests with a user experience that brings them joy rather than frustration.

We have a diverse, inclusive, and collaborative culture. We have an agile mindset. We believe that code is a craft that we use to solve complex engineering problems. We automate everything. We strive for operational excellence by building resilient systems and excellent monitoring, and we have a purposeful incident response system. We believe that learning is part of work and spend up to 50 days a year focused on personal growth.

We want you to join our team.

As a Senior Engineer you will help our team by:
  • Using your software engineering skills to add new features, fix defects, and refactor code.
  • Learning and using the tech stack for your product to design and build software that will solve critical problems for the business.
  • Improving our technical solutions by measuring, optimizing, and refactoring the code
  • Following best practices around building testable code, tests, and observability.
  • Building systems designed to scale, have strong performance, and be resilient
  • Demonstrating a solid understanding of the impact of own work on the team and/or guests
  • Coaching junior members of the team
  • Building and using monitoring to be part of a team that supports your product with a 24x7 on call rotation.
  • Learning and growing as an engineer by spending up to 50 days a year focused on learning
