About this role:

The Item Recommendations team is part of Target's Digital and Marketing Data Sciences organization. Our team develops cutting-edge solutions that power exceptional Guest experiences on Target.com and the Target App. We support our guest's digital shopping journey through the personalized and contextualized recommendation of highly relevant products.

As a Director of Data Sciences at Target, you will be the technical leader of a team of data scientists and engineers that will design, develop, deploy and maintain models and algorithms, leveraging Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Computer Vision, Natural Language Processing and Reinforcement Learning. You'll work closely with Digital and Technology business partners to continuously learn more about our business needs, and to design relevant, highly performant solutions. You'll also work with engineers and data scientists on peer teams along with your own to build and productionize recommendation solutions for our business needs.

The Director of Data Sciences will work with Product, Tech and business partners to define product roadmaps that fit in our ecosystem and solve retail challenges at scale. You will build consensus and communicate with senior level leadership. You will drive the creation of new standards and best practices with a focus on emerging technologies and author various project related documents, vision statements and roadmap.

You will develop a world-class team providing development, coaching, support, and feedback to team members. You'll also create an atmosphere of teamwork, collaboration, inclusion while communicating day-to-day decisions, priorities, and relevant project information. You'll also manage resource allocation as well as define and communicate overall vision and goals for the team.

Requirements:

• MS/PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Economics, Physics, or related major (or equivalent industry experience)
• 7+ years of experience in modeling and algorithms
• 3+ years managing, leading and developing technical teams
• Experience deploying models with large-scale business impact in commercial setting
• Deep expertise in Machine Learning and Deep Learning algorithms, proficient in Python, R, Java
• Demonstrated experience in strategic and cross-functional leadership, planning and execution
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Bonus Points:

• Experience with Recommender Systems in retail
• Experience in Reinforcement Learning and/or Natural Language Processing related areas both in theory and practice

This position may be considered for a Full-Time Remote or Hybrid work arrangement based on Target's needs. A Hybrid work arrangement means the team members core role will be a blend of virtual and onsite at a Target location. A Full-Time Remote work arrangement means the team member works full-time from home or an alternate location that's not a Target location, does not have a desk at their primary HQ work location and may travel to HQ up to 4 times a year.

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada residents is $150,100 to $270,200.00 Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, Target cares about and invests in you as a team member, so that you can take care of yourself and your family.
