The Cloud and Compute Hardware Engineering team designs, builds and maintains all of the Compute hardware across Target's on-prem locations. This includes our Enterprise Data Centers that house all of our centralized platforms and applications as well our Distributed and Edge locations at our 1,800+ Stores and 40+ Distribution Centers. Our team focuses on improving and building services at scale for Target's cloud customers. We look to abstract our compute solutions and capabilities as much as possible and deliver the infrastructure through in-house developed APIs and open-source projects. Join this team, and you will have a unique opportunity to work on core software development, solving scale and distributed systems problems in the infrastructure/cloud and compute world. You will have frequent interactions, collaborating with platform and infrastructure teams within Target, driving the product's vision.

Use your skills, experience and talents to be a part of this team. As a Software Engineer, you will:

  • Develop new features and serve as a specialist in the engineering team that supports the products.
  • Evaluate new technologies and participate in decision-making, accounting for several factors such as viability within Target's technical environment, maintainability, and cost of ownership.

  • Develop and gain insight into architecture patterns, consumer requirements, and deployment needs.
  • Promote software engineering best practices and develop consistent, scalable patterns.
  • Consult with architects, lead engineers and developers across numerous products/service groups to design robust cloud applications.
  • Display good problem-solving skills to help the team in triaging operational issues. Leverage your expertise in eliminating repeat occurrences and improving the reliability of our services.
  • Establish new standards and best practices to monitor, test, automate, and maintain software components or systems.

About you:

  • 4 year degree or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years' experience as a software developer in modern languages/frameworks like Python GoLang, Java, and Spring Boot with at least one full cycle implementation
  • Experience designing/building software at a scale that runs on cloud platforms.
  • Experience with modern CI/CD technologies such as Git, Drone, Docker, Artifactory.

  • Experience with monitoring systems, tracing, and observability to manage large-scale business-critical systems.
  • Building and deploying scalable APIs and microservices.
  • Working in an agile environment.
  • Instrumenting products with telemetry to make them observable.
  • Strong sense of ownership and the ability to work with a limited set of requirements with the team.

  • Maintains technical knowledge within areas of expertise.
  • Passionate about staying current with new and evolving technologies via formal training and self-directed education.

This position may be considered for a Full-Time Remote or Hybrid work arrangement based on Target's needs. A Hybrid work arrangement means the team members core role will be a blend of virtual and onsite at a Target location. A Full-Time Remote work arrangement means the team member works full-time from home or an alternate location that's not a Target location, does not have a desk at their primary HQ work location and may travel to HQ up to 4 times a year.

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada residents is $81,400-$146,500.
