The Senior Property Management Accountant position is an accounting professional responsible for all phases of accounting for multiple sets of property books, prepares and reviews monthly reports and provides support to the accounting department.  The Senior Property Management Accountant manages a portfolio of highly complex sites including sites in development and newly constructed. This position will be working with local government funded tenant assistance (Public Housing Assistance Sites) and sites with high turnover of staff.  The Senior Property Management Accountant will provide backup and assistance to the Property Management Accounting Supervisor. 


  1. Perform all financial accounting and reporting for a portfolio of individual properties
  2. Support Property Management and Advantage Services teams in the effective operation of properties, including:
    1. Monthly, or more frequently as needed, financial reviews with each Housing and Services (H&S) Property Management team
    2. Ongoing training with H&S property teams to ensure proper recording of transactions and use of the Yardi reporting system
    3. Monitoring of property cash flows and coordination of cash advance activity with Asset Management and Property Management
    4. Act as primary resource of financial operation for the property managers and other site personnel
  3. Support Acquisition & Development and Executive teams in the effective operation of properties in development or rehab, including:
    1. Maintain and manage working capital schedules, report budget variance and lead monthly working capital meetings
    2. Facilitate the construction and rehab process by understanding the full spectrum of the project from taking on the project until perm close.
    3. Proactively reaching out to A&D team to get up to date funding and expenses on each construction project
    4. Implement the Yardi Construction model
  4. General ledger and journal entry maintenance for property books with Federal Government funded tenant assistance (HUD and Stable Properties)
  5. Maintain schedules for assets, liabilities, and depreciation
  6. Produce accurate monthly and year end financials for management and board members
  7. Reconcile bank accounts, utilities, other vendor accounts
  8. Prepare audit schedules
  9. Comply with all internal control procedures
  10. Assist with site budgets
  11. Accurately prepare reports for distribution to management and various government agencies
  12. Cash Balance Overview- Weekly
  13. Calculate and bill management fees and escrow payments monthly
  14. Assume a leadership role for the Accountant 1 and/or 2
    1. Help with new hire training and ongoing employee support
    2. Review work including audit workbooks, monthly, quarterly and annual reporting
    3. Hiring, annual review and skill development
  15. Provide backup and assistance to the Property Management Accounting Supervisor
    1. Review staff reports for accuracy and transmit to appropriate agencies
    2. Assist with the implementation of new procedures
    3. Assist in the monthly and yearly reporting needs of the Acquisition and Development department
    4. Prepares and submits documentation for new property bank accounts
    5. Setup new users for remote depositing
  16. Other duties as assigned


  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  2. Minimum 5 years of experience with all aspects of accrual accounting through financial statements and audit preparation
  3. Intermediate competency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
  4. Ability to maintain effective internal control procedures
  5. Possess a high level of accuracy and detail orientation
  6. Demonstrated experience working within diverse communities, which include people of various ages, gender, sexual orientations, national origins, income levels, ability levels, religious affiliations, races, and languages
  7. Ability to work independently and cross functionally
  8. Excellent customer service, organization, and both written and oral communication skills
  9. Ability to manage multiple duties while adhering to established deadlines
