Career Counselor
University of Minnesota Law School. Based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, reporting to the Director of the Career Center, the position is responsible for the following duties, including primarily serving as a judicial clerkship adviser to students and alumni seeking judicial clerkships: Deliver services regarding comprehensive career and professional development initiatives for JD and alumni of the Law School; provide professional development counseling to students and alumni via direct individual counseling, group programs, and/or video and electronic communications; provide specialized career counseling on the state and federal judicial clerkship application and hiring processes for 2Ls, 3Ls, and graduates, as well as career paths for international students; plan and organize programs on varying career related topics for judicial clerkship paths and career paths for international students; broaden and deepen relationships with judges, other employers, faculty, and student organizations; solicit employment data and other employment compliance requests; support the Judicial Externship course and the Clerkship Committee at the Law School; serve as internal expert in judicial clerkships, training the career center team and faculty; 20% of time with international students seeking JD-required positions; 20% of time with highly-credentialed students seeking competitive judicial clerkships from all class years; 20% of time with high-achieving alumni seeking judicial clerkships after graduating; 25% of time interacting with faculty, judges, and judicial staff from all over the country, providing advice and resources on hiring, and connecting judges with students and alumni, including less than 2% of time traveling; 15% of time developing resources and programming to support judicial clerkship paths and the job search process for international students. Requirements: Law Degree, and 12 months’ experience as a Judicial Clerk.
