A role with Employee Relations means the opportunity to provide legal counsel on internal employee relations matters for our domestic field, headquarters and international locations. Your internal clients will be Human Resources and various business leaders, and you'll consult on investigations and respond to both internal and external claims.

As a Senior Legal Analyst, you will work on the Employee Relations (ER) Headquarters and Global team to support HR and business partners with strategic and timely guidance on ER questions and issues.

You will take the lead to:

  • Maintain a solid understanding and interpretation of employment screening laws that govern Target's pre-hire and post-hire practices; serve as ER resource for specific laws and requirements affecting criminal background checks and drug testing, and support the development and review of best practices and processes
  • Manage ER workflow for pre- and post-hire screening assessments; analyze and complete assessments in accordance with Target's processes and practices, and in compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations
  • Provide strategic guidance to HR and ER partners while assessing company exposure on a wide variety of employment-related issues; recommend solutions as appropriate by analyzing pros and cons, alternative strategies, and best practices
  • Collaborate with attorney team to understand ER initiatives and priorities and deliver support, including participation in projects, investigations, data analysis, drafting, tracking, collecting and maintaining legal documentation, and consulting with HR and business partners as appropriate
  • Represent ER on business initiatives by independently leading projects, setting and managing timelines, escalating issues, and communicating progress with key partners and leaders
  • Establish and maintain key cross-functional relationships across Legal Affairs, HR, and business leaders to resolve issues, drive collaboration, and coordination on projects, business initiatives and legal matters

About you:
  • Four-year degree or equivalent experience;
  • 5+ years of related experience in a law firm or law department, or relevant experience within human resources, criminal justice and/or assets protection field; Prior employee relations, employment screening practice, or criminal justice experience preferred
  • Ability to facilitate meetings, resolve conflict, build consensus, establish rapport and collaborate effectively across departments and externally
  • Strong attention to detail; analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to leverage data to influence decisions, identify risks and improvement opportunities, and distill complex issues into actionable plans
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, maintaining appropriate prioritization and ensuring adherence to deadlines
  • Ability to apply discretion and sensitivity while working with confidential information
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively both independently or with minimal direction and as a member of a team
  • Proficient in Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Explorer (or similar web browsers)


This position may be considered for a Full-Time Remote or Hybrid work arrangement based on Target's needs. A Hybrid work arrangement means the team members core role will be a blend of virtual and onsite at a Target location. A Full-Time Remote work arrangement means the team member works full-time from home or an alternate location that's not a Target location, does not have a desk at their primary HQ work location and may travel to HQ up to 4 times a year.

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada residents is $65,600 to $118,100. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, Target cares about and invests in you as a team member, so that you can take care of yourself and your family.
