S1 Salary Range: $64,310 - $99,848/annually

S2 Salary Range: $79,135 - $116,969/annually

S3 Salary Range: $89,032 - $143,925/annually

Job Summary

The Office is seeking an attorney with at least 5 years of experience practicing in the area of civil commitment and criminal law. This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified professional to join a highly committed team that handles important public safety and legal matters for the State of Minnesota. Duties of the position will primarily include representing the prosecution in Sexually Dangerous Person petitions and appeals. The position also includes training law enforcement officers and attorneys and serving as a resource for other divisions of the office and prosecutors throughout Minnesota.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from a law school accredited by the ABA and license to practice in the State of Minnesota
  • Five or more years’ experience practicing in the area of civil commitment and criminal law
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills (a cover letter containing a writing sample of up to five pages is required with application submission)
  • Experience using electronic files and case management tools
  • Ability to travel to counties across the state
  • Proven ability to:
  • contribute positively to a team and interact successfully with clients and members of the public
  • exercise excellent judgement, character, and work ethic
  • work in an inclusive, creative, and collaborative work environment
  • multitask by managing an active caseload and meeting tight deadlines

To be considered at the S2 level, candidates must have 8 years of related experience.

To be considered at the S3 level, candidates must have 12 years of related experience.
