About our team:

We build and support software products that are used enterprise wide across Target and outside Target by vendors and business partners to manage and maintain all the attributes that are sold on target.com and in all 2,000 Target stores. Our products allow users to create and maintain items that are going to be sold at Target for the upcoming season with close collaboration with merchants, suppliers and intermediaries that facilitate imports, customs etc.,. Our team is a global team that is located in USA and India. We do agile sprints, have daily meetings and frequent design sessions with our product owners, adhere to test driven development on both user-interface and back-end technologies, leverage continuous integration and deployment, and deploy to production at the end of each sprint. Our engineers have a strong team spirit and an eagerness to learn from and contribute to the team. Our engineers design and develop databases, Spring Boot Java applications (with an interest in moving to Kotlin), and/or React JavaScript front end applications. We also use Kafka messaging, Grafana monitoring, and Google analytics technologies, as well as the latest tools for agile development, test driven development, CI/CD, and containerization.

As a Senior Engineer, you serve as a specialist in the engineering team that supports the product(s). You get numerous opportunities to provide solutions to complex business problems that involves stringent performance and availability requirements. You help develop and gain insight in the application architecture. You can distill an abstract architecture into concrete design and influence the implementation. You show expertise in applying the appropriate software engineering patterns to build robust and scalable systems. You are an expert in programming and apply your skills in improving the stability and scalability of existing products and enhancing the existing products. You have the ability to influence your fellow engineers by proposing software designs and providing feedback on software designs and/or implementation. You show good problem-solving skills and can help the team in triaging operational issues. You leverage your expertise in eliminating repeat occurrences.

As a Sr. Engineer, you'll use your technology acumen to apply and maintain knowledge of current and emerging technologies within specialized area(s) of the technology domain. Evaluate new technologies and participate in decision-making, accounting for several factors such as viability within Target's technical environment, maintainability, and cost of ownership. Initiate and execute research and proof-of-concept activities for new technologies. Lead the design, lifecycle management, and total cost of ownership of services. Lead and conduct code review, design review, testing, and debugging activities at the application level. Lead functional design and architecture discussions with understanding of process flows and system diagrams to enable design decisions. Participate in routine and non-routine construction, automation, and implementation activities, ensuring successful implementation with architectural and operational requirements and best practices met. Provide technical oversight and coach others to resolve complex and severe technical issues. Lead disaster recovery activities and contribute to disaster recovery planning. Embed data quality protocols throughout data acquisition, processing, storage, and operational use.

About you:
• 4 year degree or equivalent experience
• 4-6 years of software development experience

• Experienced in full stack (UI and backend) product development

• Experienced in JVM languages and/or JavaScript frameworks, ReactJS experience a plus
• Demonstrates strong proficiency in core development platforms within own domain
• Designs new testing methods and resolves routine and non-routine technical issues with minimal assistance
• Builds strong commitment within the team to support team priorities
• Communicates Agile concepts to partners within product team
• Demonstrates understanding of the impact of own work on the team and/or guests
• Demonstrates expertise in analysis and optimization of systems capacity, performance, and operational health

• Influences and applies data standards, policies, and procedures
• Maintains technical knowledge within areas of expertise
• Stays current with new and evolving technologies via formal training and self-directed education

This position may be considered for a Full-Time Remote or Hybrid work arrangement based on Target's needs. A Hybrid work arrangement means the team members core role will be a blend of virtual and onsite at a Target location. A Full-Time Remote work arrangement means the team member works full-time from home or an alternate location that's not a Target location, does not have a desk at their primary HQ work location and may travel to HQ up to 4 times a year.

The salary range is $65,600-$118,100.
