The SmartBuildings team helps bridge and build technology to BMS (building management system) to drive automated outcomes and support sustainability goals for Target. At Target, we have networked, controlled and intelligent assets in areas such as refrigeration, lighting, energy, HVAC, etc.

As a Sr Engineer on the SmartBuildings team, you serve as a specialist in the engineering team that supports a platform that increases the efficiency of store building operations, help guests have a safer and more comfortable shopping experience, and help Target fix facility problems faster and save money on utilities and repairs. You can distill an abstract architecture into concrete design and influence the implementation. You have substantial expertise in applying appropriate software engineering patterns and in programming to build robust and scalable systems. You show good problem solving skills and can help the team in triaging operational issues.

We are looking for engineers to build innovative and well-designed software and also be a part of groundbreaking technological innovation, strategic thinking and visionary goals. As a Sr Engineer in the SmartBuildings product team, you will:

· Be a significant code contributor, own and be accountable for your work, drive best practices and ensure the development of high-quality code. Lead, conduct, participate in code reviews, design reviews, testing and debugging at the application level.

· Be a great team player, mentor team members and help build a team of high caliber software development engineers. Be a thought partner to promote re-use and develop consistent, scalable patterns.

· Drive resolution of technology roadblocks including code, infrastructure, build and deployment. In complex and unstructured situations, serve as an expert resource to ensure high-performance, scalable, repeatable, and secure deliverables. Account for maintainability, cost of ownership, mitigating and removing risks.

· Initiate and execute research, proof-of-concepts, technologies, frameworks, design patterns, processes and guiding values of the domain and architecture. Stay current with Target's technical capabilities, infrastructure, and technical environment.

· Ensure all code adheres to all development & security standards.

· Manage and support total product, take on rotating on-call responsibilities.

About you:

· 4 year degree or equivalent work experience

· 5+ years of software development experience with at least one full cycle implementation

· Experience in backend development using a JVM language (preferably Java) and microservices

· Experience in testing frameworks, various types of tests (unit, integration, functional, etc.) and CI/CD

· Demonstrates strong domain-specific knowledge regarding Target's technology capabilities, and key competitors' products and differentiating features

· Demonstrates strong proficiency in core development platforms within own domain

· Working knowledge in analysis and optimization of systems capacity, performance and operation

· Communicates and coordinates with project team, partners, and stakeholders

· Builds strong commitment within the team to support the appropriate team priorities

· Stays current with new and evolving technologies via formal training and self-directed education
