Job Overview:

As the Director of Packaging Optimization, you will lead a global multi-discipline team with direct responsibility for driving packaging cost and process improvement strategies within Target's Owned Brand portfolio. You will be guest centric, understand inclusive and responsible design, guest and packaging trends while staying well connected to industry resources and capabilities. You will collaborate with peers and leaders across various functions to identify and establish strategic end-to-end levers for achieving sustainable design and process improvements through package, product, supply chain and vendor/suppliers programs. You and your team will work on a global scale and be responsible for tracking and reporting progress toward productivity objectives, including active engagement in identifying and prioritizing opportunities across Owned Brands using metrics aligned with the business pyramids to support Target's ambitious growth agenda.

Principal duties and responsibilities include:
  • Guest-centric leader who shapes and stewards the Owned Brands packaging portfolio identifying and optimizing our packaging to effectively meet guest needs, improve performance and drive efficiencies.
  • Lead, inspire, coach, and develop a diverse team of passionate, capable packaging professionals. Perform managerial duties in a hybrid work environment such as planning, organizing, and staffing to ensure successful execution of all program activities.
  • Responsible for creating and delivering a multi-year cost saving roadmap for Owned Brand Packaging.
  • Accountable to identify and deliver margin improved, sustainably designed initiatives that support Target's sustainability goals and the overall strategic plans of the business pyramid.
  • Research, identify and lead innovative, end-to-end Omni-channel packaging opportunities that deliver improved guest experience and drive profitable sales.
  • Lead new optimization techniques; identify technology and industry capabilities to drive improvements to current and future packaging designs and systems.
  • Recognized as an authority and technical expert with deep expertise on Target supply chain systems.


About you:
  • 4-year college degree in Design, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or related field and/or a minimum of 15 years of equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrates leadership within DE&I (diversity, equity, and inclusion) actions and behaviors with emphasis on team growth and development.
  • Experienced in leading product, packaging, supply chain and/or vendor process improvement including design, margin, direct to guest and transit.
  • In-depth knowledge of packaging creation process, including insights, design, development, and manufacturing (global experience preferred).
  • Skilled at continuous improvement, ability to self-lead with strong project management skills.
  • Ability to analyze all aspects of packaging process with financial understanding to optimize profitability.
  • Proven creative problem solver with ability to drive and manage multiple large-scale packaging initiatives.
  • High awareness of external landscape, market influences and shifting consumer behavior in packaging and retail industry.
  • Ability to interact, negotiate and influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Outstanding communication, presentation, collaboration, and teamwork skills.
