Advertisement The Elementary Education Initial Licensure program at St. Catherine University invites applications for a one year, full-time Assistant Professor.

St. Catherine University’s education programs include courses and fieldwork experiences that leverage research based theory with practical classroom skills. In partnership with K-12 schools, fieldwork and student teaching experiences provide rich opportunities for students to collaborate with mentor teachers, better preparing them for their professional careers. Hallmarks of our program include a focus on anti-bias, anti-racist pedagogy, literacy and STEM education. Our faculty are recognized for leadership and their strengths in these areas. This Assistant Professor will:

  • Teach educational foundations and methods courses and education courses with a STEM focus
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate initial licensure courses in traditional classroom, online and hybrid environments
  • Teach in the Post Licensure Program
  • Supervise three to six student teachers in undergraduate and MAED Initial Licensure programs
  • Monitor and assess student-learning outcomes and provide timely and frequent feedback to students on academic performance
  • Advise 15 – 20 students
  • Design, teach, evaluate and revise course content to reflect evidence-based practice and most current knowledge in the field
  • Be an active member of the department by serving on named committees; as well as engaging in service to the university and professional organizations through participation in events, activities, and ad hoc committees
  • Foster a culture of inclusive excellence through authentic relationships with students as an educator, an advisor, and a mentor
  • Consistent with the university’s Catholic identity, its commitment to women, diversity, inclusion, social justice, and dedication to a liberal arts based curriculum, faculty are expected to manifest these themes in their teaching and service

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Education, AND
    • 18 graduate credits in the area of instruction(e.g., Elementary Education, Reading/Literacy Education), OR
    • Completion of a state-approved teacher prep program aligned to scope and content of methods instruction area, OR
    • Completed dissertation or published peer-reviewed research in area of instruction; AND
    • Three years of experience as the teacher of record (full-time)
  • Knowledge of a broad variety of educational theories, curriculum and program models
  • Knowledge of and commitment to anti-bias and anti-racist pedagogy and curriculum
  • Experience working with traditional and non-traditional adult college students
  • Experience delivering instruction in both face-to-face and online learning environments

Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctorate in Education (required to teach graduate-level research courses)
  • Preference given to candidates with STEM Education or Literacy/Reading Education
  • Holds or has held a professional license aligned to Elementary Education
  • Five or more years of experience as the teacher of record in K-6
