JOB POSITION: Senior Engineer

LOCATION: 7000 Target Parkway North, Brooklyn Park, MN 55445

DUTIES: Develop and gain insight into application architecture; distill abstract technical architecture into concrete designs; deliver high-performance, scalable, repeatable, and secure software solutions with broad impact (high throughput and low latency); influence the implementation of architecture design; expertly apply appropriate software engineering patterns to build robust and scalable systems; use expert programming skills to develop a software solution product; use the skills needed to design and implement technical architecture independently to influence fellow engineers by proposing software designs and providing feedback on software designs and/or implementation; use expert problem-solving skills to help an engineering team triage software solution operational issues; expertly eliminate repeat occurrences of problematic operational issues with software solutions; apply, maintain, and improve knowledge of current and emerging technologies within relevant specialized areas of the technology domain used through formal training and self-directed education; evaluate new technologies and participate in decision-making regarding purchases and upgrades, accounting for several factors such as viability within Target's technical environment, maintainability, and cost of ownership; initiate and execute research and proof-of-concept activities for new technologies; manage a software solution, including financials and forecasting; lead the design, lifecycle management, and total cost of ownership of software solutions; lead and conduct code review, design review, testing, and debugging activities at the application level; lead functional design and architecture discussions with a professional understanding of process flows and system diagrams to enable design decisions; participate in routine and non-routine construction, automation, and implementation activities, ensuring successful implementation with architectural and operational requirements and best practices met; provide technical oversight and coach others to resolve complex and severe technical issues; lead disaster recovery activities and contribute to disaster recovery planning; embed data quality protocols throughout data acquisition, processing, storage, and operational use; and clearly communicate Agile concepts to partners within product team. Tools/skills used: Java, Kotlin, Ktor framework, Python, JUnit, KotlinTest framework, RocksDb, Oracle, Mongo, Kafka, continuous integration, processing data streams, architecture designing, leading discussions, application performance tuning, monitoring and supporting production applications, mentoring interns. Position includes a telecommute benefit within commuting distance to Minneapolis-area Target office, as directed.

REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a Master's degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering and at least three (3) years of experience with software development (any title) developing and modifying applications and databases, performing maintenance on software products, diagnosing software problems and performing problem resolution, unit testing software, and using test-driven development, Java, Kotlin, Ktor framework, KotlinTest framework, Oracle, Mongo, and Kafka. Position includes a telecommute benefit within commuting distance to Minneapolis-area Target office, as directed.
