The City of Walker is seeking candidates for the position of full-time Police Chief. Walker is located on Leech Lake, the third largest lake in Minnesota, and has a population of 980 full-time residents. Walker is a tourist destination in all seasons, with great fishing, hunting, walking/biking/snowmobile trails, community events and live music, and a multitude of downtown shops and restaurants. We are looking for someone who would engage in community policing, and build good relationships with residents, business owners, tourists, city staff, and the school district. The Walker Police Department has one full-time Chief of Police, two full-time Patrol Officers, and a few part-time Patrol Officers. Applicant must have an Associate’s degree in law enforcement or closely related field, be POST licensed, and have three to five years of full-time work experience as a licensed police officer with some supervisory experience or demonstrated leadership abilities. The salary is $75,400.00, with an additional 3% increase after a successful six-month probationary period. Wage increases and benefits are set every year by the City Council.
