The Henrietta Schmoll School of Health at St. Catherine University invites applications for an Assistant Professor position for a full-time, tenure track position with a primary appointment to the Social Work bachelor's degree program. It is scheduled to begin in the Fall term of 2023-2024.

Our bachelor of social work program has a critically reflective generalist focus, grounded in diverse ways of knowing and integrated practice. Our faculty are committed to adding innovative elements to our curriculum that further a critical approach to social injustices arising from multiple and intersecting forms of oppression and inequality. Our goal is to hire faculty who bring a decolonized perspective to teaching and heightened awareness of deeply embedded socio-political dynamics impacting institutions as well as the individuals, families and communities we teach and serve. The BSW program is starting a Child Advocacy Studies ( CAST ) certificate and is looking for a dynamic faculty member who can help develop, lead, and teach CAST courses. We offer BSW and MSW programs within our Department and both are thriving and well respected in the practice community. We are also a part of the Henrietta Schmoll School of Health which allows us to integrate learning with other healthcare degree programs.

Responsibilities:
  • Teach six (6) courses per year in traditional classroom, online and hybrid environments.
  • Communicate respectfully and build relationships of trust with people of all cultures and abilities, affirming the worth and preserving the dignity of individuals, families, and communities.
  • Develop, coordinate and teach within the CAST certificate. This will include community outreach and working with the Director of Simulation.
  • Foster a culture of inclusive excellence through authentic relationships with students as an educator, an advisor, and a mentor
  • Engage in academic advising with students, monitoring and assessing student learning outcomes and provide timely and frequent feedback to students on academic performance.
  • Develop an active program of research in their area of interest and expertise to advance the discipline and inform classroom teaching.
  • Monitor curriculum content and make recommendations as appropriate to maintain relevance.
  • Effectively contribute to the highly collaborative work of the Department.
  • Provide service to the Department and University.
  • Consistent with the university's Catholic identity, its commitment to women, diversity, inclusion, social justice, and dedication to a liberal arts-based curriculum, faculty are expected to manifest these themes in their teaching, research, service and accomplishments

ST. CATHERINE UNIVERSITY

Formerly the College of St. Catherine, St. Kate’s was founded in St. Paul in 1905 by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, whose social justice mission of loving God and neighbor without distinction anchors our commitment to respond to the needs of the time.  The University is named for St. Catherine of Alexandria, the 4th-century Egyptian philosopher, who suffered martyrdom for her faith.

St. Kate’s is a nationally recognized university with the College for Women at its core which is one of the largest Catholic colleges for women in the nation. It is one of the most comprehensive Catholic universities in the United States, offering access to an education in over 80 academic programs ranging from professional certificates to post-graduate degrees in the liberal arts and professional programs.  In 2009, St. Kate’s moved from college to university status, retaining its tradition of academic excellence while expanding its structure to three colleges and three schools. The three schools are the School of Humanities, Arts and Sciences (SHAS), School of Business, and the Henrietta Schmoll School of Health (HSSH), each of which serves students in the College for Women, the Graduate College, and the College for Adults.

The University’s commitment to Inclusive Excellence encourages students across schools and colleges to incorporate global learning and experiences into their education. St. Kate’s is committed to making Inclusive Excellence a reality and has identified “Drive a Culture of Inclusive Excellence” as one of its six strategic priorities. Initiatives include the expansion of equity and inclusion-centered curricular content in specific courses and in each program of study, new recruitment strategies and training around elimination of bias, and retention efforts targeted for faculty and staff of color using professional development opportunities and resources.  Finally, the plan has an explicit focus on the articulation and development of the essential skills students must possess to succeed in diverse and inclusive workplaces and communities and defining how the educational program and co-curricular student experience will foster these outcomes.
