A role in Finance Capabilities means partnering with Finance, technology, data science and analytics leaders to co-create solutions that both maximizes business value and enables key strategies that are critical to the enterprise and for the experiences we create for our guests.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

As a senior data analyst, you will be part of the team that enables faster, smarter and scalable decision-making to compete and win the modern retail market. Here, you'll leverage data, statistics and visualization to create the actionable insights that deliver value across finance. Our savvy reporting and analytics experts use market-leading tools and data automation to make a positive impact that is felt across the business. If you can work on autonomous teams, integrate the latest practices with your approach, write code to handle massive data sets, simplify complex decisions by providing flexible, fast and sustainable decision-making solutions, then you'll be very successful on our Data Analytics and Automation team. As a senior data analyst in Finance Capabilities, you will take the lead as you:

  • Execute or direct a variety of analytics initiatives including; metric identification, reason coding, hypothesis testing, time series analysis, cluster analysis, root cause analysis, scale of impact quantification, predictive analysis, business process improvement, or scenario analysis.
  • Work closely with Finance Tax Team to build efficient data and reporting products for Enterprise Tax Compliance and Audit Processes.
  • Use a wide variety of analytics tools including R, Python, SQL, and proprietary BI platforms (Tableau or similar tools) to work with diverse data assets and big data platforms like Hadoop.
  • Break down complex processes in order to complete analyses that directly improve operational performance.
  • Inspire intellectual curiosity around operational improvement opportunities.
  • In situations when reliable data does not exist, look for creative ways to obtain it.
  • Contribute to the development of tools and processes which make the team more efficient.
  • Build deep understanding of business outcomes and stakeholder responsibilities.


Working Relationships:
  • Works directly with product owners, process owners, other analysts and engineers to gain insight and access to relevant data.
  • Engages with product owners and finance tax business users to deliver quality work.
  • Active participant in Data Sciences and Analytics functions and training.


About you:
  • 4-year degree (or equivalent) in business analytics, finance, economics or related field OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of finance, accounting, or retail domain experience.
  • Proficient with SQL and manipulating large datasets
  • Proficient on working with varying data storage platforms (Hadoop, Postgres, Oracle or similar databases).
  • Familiarity with one or more Reporting/Visualization tools (Tableau, Domo, Power BI or similar tools).
  • Familiarity with ETL concept and Tool (Informatica, Datastage or similar) preferred.
  • Familiarity with one or more scripting languages for data analysis (R, Python preferred).
  • Positive, people-oriented, enthusiastic and can easily work with others, regardless of their analytical proficiency or technical competence.
  • Analytical, creative, and innovative approach to solving problems.
  • Proven track record of using feedback to adapt workflow and increase efficiency.
  • Ability to lead a body of work cross-functionally.


This position may be considered for a Full-Time Remote or Hybrid work arrangement based on Target's needs. A Hybrid work arrangement means the team members core role will be a blend of virtual and onsite at a Target location. A Full-Time Remote work arrangement means the team member works full-time from home or an alternate location that's not a Target location, does not have a desk at their primary HQ work location and may travel to HQ up to 4 times a year.

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada residents is $65,600-$118,100.
