The Dir Sustainability Risk, Policy and Governance is a key member of Target's Sustainability leadership team and reports to the VP, Sustainability. This role will drive the development of a proactive strategy to mitigate sustainability risk driven by new (regulatory) requirements, stakeholders' expectations, activism, and other sustainability macro trends that could create vulnerabilities to our business. This role is responsible for overseeing the analysis and reporting necessary to assure compliance with Target's environmental and social policies enterprise-wide in support of Target Forward strategy, and overall risk mitigation efforts. The Sustainability Risk, Policy and Compliance Dir has a deep understanding of the guest, operational, and regulatory needs that govern company operations and thus be positioned to develop and put in place the right environmental controls to reduce risk, costs, and improve sustainability compliance. This role will oversee the due diligence for sustainability compliance requirements, monitor emerging regulations and new standards, develops compliance specifications and policies, builds compliance programs to support business initiatives, and troubleshoot and resolves compliance issues that arise during business operations.

About you:
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field, advanced degree in law, sustainability, business, environmental science, or other relevant degree. MBA Preferred.
  • 8+ years in risk management, compliance/ legal or financial services, of which at least 4 years must include direct experience in environmental and social risk management
  • Proven track record of effective stakeholder engagement including suppliers, non-governmental organizations, and regulators, and collaboration mapping and tracking complex sustainability issues and initiatives.
  • Extensive knowledge of environmental and social / human rights topics as applied to Retail and/or Consumer Goods industries.
  • Strategic thinker with experience coordinating and collaborating with multiple stakeholders, including senior leaders and executives
  • Ongoing awareness of industry trends, governmental regulations, and sustainability best practices
  • Experience developing environmental and social policy guidance in areas where there may be no roadmap, precedent, or previous foundation
  • Excellent communicator with strong written communication skills and a strong ability to communicate effectively with individuals and teams at all levels of the company and with outside partners/stakeholders
  • Ability to execute with high degree of ambiguity and remain calm in high-pressure situations.

This position may be considered for a Full-Time Remote or Hybrid work arrangement based on Target's needs. A Hybrid work arrangement means the team members core role will be a blend of virtual and onsite at a Target location. A Full-Time Remote work arrangement means the team member works full-time from home or an alternate location that's not a Target location, does not have a desk at their primary HQ work location and may travel to HQ up to 4 times a year.

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada residents is $119,500k - $215,100k.
