About the job:

The Assortment Planning team is focused on creating a competitive advantage for Target by making it easier to create assortments that are the most relevant to our Guests and deliver our financial and operational goals. The Merchandise Operations team is standing up a new team to enable the continuous improvement of the assortment planning capability. This team will focus on creating and maintaining consistent processes and roles related to assortment change moments.

In this new role, as a Sr. Business Partner on the Merchandise Operations team, you will be responsible for driving operational excellence into the Assortment Planning process for the division(s) you support. You will do this by building connection across the functions involved in the assortment change process, creating and maintaining calendars for those change moments, and advising on the best strategies for mitigating and eliminating in-season risks. Additionally, you will play a key role in the creation and implementation of enhancements to Target's assortment planning capability. You will do this by identifying process gaps and creating new processes, ensuring changes to the assortment planning process are reflected in calendars, as well as supporting your businesses by scheduling trainings and collecting & analyzing feedback. Some of your key roles and responsibilities include:

  • Build connection across Buying, Planning, Inventory Management, SPT, Stores, Owned Brand Sourcing & Design, SEM, and Procurement to ensure the assortment change process supports the needs of each function
  • Create and maintain division-specific calendars to reflect all assortment lifecycle milestones or activities for the division(s) you are responsible for
  • Integrate Owned Brand-specific activities into the division(s) calendars and reconcile timing conflicts by working with Owned Brand Project Manager(s)
  • Track progress of key activities to ensure on-time delivery of assortment change moments
  • Facilitate weekly CFT meetings to review milestones, as well as ad hoc discussions with all impacted functions when disruption occurs
  • Develop in-season risk mitigation strategies based on an understanding of the business nuances, taking functional partners as needed to decide on and implement the course of action
  • Identify process gaps and work with functional teams to create solutions to be implemented within the divisions you support and across national brand-led businesses across the enterprise
  • Reconcile changes that may impact implementation and/or create process inconsistences with Assortment Planning Operation Leads
  • Send weekly communication of upcoming milestones and raise risk to milestones
  • Schedule Assortment Planning milestones and change management activities
  • Collect feedback from your division(s) following set dates, and incorporate necessary changes for future change moments

About you:
  • Four-year degree or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of retail experience, preferably in Merchandising, Product Development, and/or Operations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills and critical thinking skills to identify process gaps and propose solutions
  • Strong decision-making skills when competing priorities may require tradeoffs
  • Ability to solve complex problems based on the needs of the business
  • Ability to establish and maintain cross-functional working relationships across the enterprise
  • Ability to manage multiple shifting priorities in a dynamic, ambiguous environment
