Target is an iconic brand, a Fortune 50 company and one of America's leading retailers. As a Senior Engineering Manager, Sapphire - Data Platform engineering, you will be responsible for leading Full Stack UI-Development team and high scale API team.

Sapphire enables the Target Digital Experimentation and with scope for expanding towards to Supply Chain/Fulfillment/Stores. You and your team will be responsible for the design and development of next generation Business UI, API and a high-performance API's and systems to provide accurate and optimized experimentation and analytical results to the users.

With the growth seen in, Stores and Supply chain, and as part of this team the key focus areas would be

A technical rewrite of the application with the latest tech stack and simplified architecture. Optimization in both business/technical space enabling continued growth Improving the accuracy results and metrics Restructuring of the application considering simplification and optimization. Continued improvements on-boarding new consumers and enabling the platform for ease of use.


You will use your skills, experience and talents to be a part of groundbreaking thinking and visionary goals. As an engineering leader, you will

  • Drive product development and operations with lead engineers and drive technical decision making, adhering to Target platform architecture and other enterprise decisions.
  • Have a strong focus on team management and development, equal focus will be on writing production code and hands on active development of the capabilities and solutions.
  • Assist in defining infrastructure need, internal vs. external cloud and use of Target enterprise solution and drive resolution of technology roadblocks including code, infrastructure, build and deployment and managing overall software development cycle by adhering to development and security standards.
  • Establish good stakeholder communication and work closely with partner teams and influence setting roadmap and help drive requirements while being a strong advocate of extreme agile and DevOps practices across engineers.
  • Advocate for technologies, frameworks, design patterns, processes and guiding values of the domain architecture
  • Build and manage a team of high performing full stack engineers and provide leadership, coaching, motivation and recommend staffing levels, operating procedures, tools and systems for the team. Provide career development and performance management to a team of engineers.

About you:
  • Four-year degree or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of related experience; 5+ years of experience software engineering and 3+ years in leadership, mentoring and development roles
  • Deep understanding of building highly scalable distributed systems
  • Deep understanding of system design and architecture
  • Exposure to caching technologies
  • Ability to convey technical solutions clearly to team and beyond
  • Experience building and leading Agile teams that have adopted modern CI/CD practices and have hosted workloads in the external or private cloud environments
  • Experience in managing global teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to articulate and present technical problems and providing solution to Product Managers and Engineers
  • Team oriented and passionate to develop team skills and capabilities
  • Successful track record of leading Technical Initiatives at enterprise or product level
  • Experience in retail domain is also a big plus
  • Experience in managing P2/P3 Critical Systems is a plus
  • Expertise in Data Integration and handling of large volume of Transactional Data
  • Knowledge and Proficiency in programming language like Java/Kotlin
  • Knowledge and Proficiency on Full Stack Web development is a plus
  • Knowledge in Distributed High Scale Caching Architecture
  • Experience in Cloud infrastructure Public or Private Clouds

This position may be considered for a Full-Time Remote or Hybrid work arrangement based on Target's needs. A Hybrid work arrangement means the team members core role will be a blend of virtual and onsite at a Target location. A Full-Time Remote work arrangement means the team member works full-time from home or an alternate location that's not a Target location, does not have a desk at their primary HQ work location and may travel to HQ up to 4 times yr.

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada residents is $106,000 to $191,000.
