A role as a Sr. PD Scientist means leading formulated and materials product categories and driving for differentiation in Essentials, Health & Beauty and Pets Owned Brands. Do you love to create product solutions that help meet strategic business goals? Can you demonstrate creative and inventive ways to develop products that are unprecedented in the marketplace for their quality and performance? Then you'll have success with our team of Scientists who own the formulation development of Target-Owned Brands. In close partnership with compliance and sourcing counterparts, you'll drive brand cohesion and continuity of quality & performance, while ensuring our products meet merchant line plans, assortment strategies, price points and overall product direction. You'll also collaborate with vendors to ensure that the brand vision is clearly understood and successfully brought to life with every product we offer.

As a Sr. PD Scientist leading Pets & OTC Food Product categories, you will collaborate within a cross functional team comprised of business, brand, technical, regulatory, and marketing partners to identify growth opportunities and build winning solutions for our guests.

You will be accountable for leading product strategy & development, quality monitoring, and championing our team and company values.

PRODUCT - STRATEGY & DEVELOPMENT
  • Create a clear and actionable strategy with strong abilities to execute projects: research & concept, product development stages and finalizing through commercialization & quality tracking.
  • Ability to flex and manage projects across multiple categories and cross functional teams at various overlapping stages of development
  • Drives, influences, and leads projects independently while also consistently collaborating and seeking diverse perspective
  • Leads through entire product development process in addition to identifying unique requirements such as: lab testing, guest research needs, continuous improvements and technical specifications
  • Strong ability to collaborate and build knowledge on industry trends to create and support strategies & roadmaps for categories and brands
  • Identifying future manufacturing partners in collaboration with sourcing & QA teams and making recommendations.
  • Identify benchmarks for specified owned brands to continuously evaluate and compare Target products to that of the competition and ensure Target product meets or exceeds the performance of competitors' product.

  • Easily adapts to team, partners and process while using their unique skillsets to refine and improve best practices.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with internal and external partners including experts across Pet and Dietary Supplements (Veterinarians, Animal Nutritionists)
  • Track record building strong relationships with vendor base to unlock capabilities and growth for our brands and businesses.
  • Ability to utilize and translate complex information to influence a broad audience

About You:
  • Four-year degree in Food Science, Chemical Engineering, related field, or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years of relevant experience
  • Pet Food Development experience desired, but not required
  • High Proficiency with food product development and formulation including cost drivers, ingredient interactions, and technical feasibility
  • Advanced knowledge of product manufacturing process, raw materials, and research
  • Exceptional at developing partnerships and working in a team environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills and creative thinking skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills - ability to synthesize & communicate emerging science knowledge succinctly
  • Ability to think strategically and conceptually
  • Strong Business understanding and acumen
  • Strong project management skills
  • Knowledge of testing, safety and legal requirements for consumer products
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
